Question ID: 37500
Are there any manufacturers of High End performance Luxury PCs? Could
you give me a few examples or examples of any endorsed PCs (eg a
Porsche design)
I am aware of companies like Falcon Northwest and Alienware who make
performance computers, but I was wondering whether there was anyone in
the luxury arena for Personal Computers, Apple comes close but I guess
I was thinking of the Bang&Olufson equivalent.

If I wanted to make a dream desktop PC system instead, could I have a
few names
of High End component manufacturers (and I mean high end as in B&O not
Coolermaster)... I am specifically looking for:
a unique monitor, mouse, keyboard, Computer Case and Speaker+Sound
System - what names would you suggest (Price is no issue and I don't
want a high spec Dell)?

Also are there any really high spec limited edition internal
components like graphics cards and disk drives?...

Googlebrain,

Thanks for the info, I hadn't heard of VOODOO and I was pleasantly
surprised. However their systems seem to be focused on the High End
Power user type.

Does that mean you couldn't find anything out there that was more
exclusive luxury/style/sleek design orientated (but not a Sony Vaio
Desktop)? (I have also seen Oberhofer.com, although they are on the
right lines, I think their systems look a little cheesy)

I know this is a bit of wierd question and I have been unlucky finding
stuff myself, but maybe it just comes down to something that is really
sleek.

Do you know any companies that make exotic sleek cases (not halogens
and cutouts on a normal box like in these enthusiast sites)?

Look if there is no such thing, then there is no such thing and I will
gladly part with my listing fee, but I felt I should clarify the
question a little.

Thanks

Style and Luxury are highly subjective concepts. When you gave the car
analogy, I started thinking about what it is that makes a luxury car
"luxury."

Mostly, it's the extras. All cars have seats, but luxury cars have
heated, electrically reclining leather bucket seats. Electric Power
Windows, Electric Mirrors, On-board computer, On*Star, Lo-Jack,
Extended warranties... the extras.

Ok, I think I'm homing in on what you want. I'm picturing the kind of
computer Lex Luthor would use. Understated, but obviously classy. Now
*I* want one of these :) I haven't come across anything like this, but
I'm going to keep looking. I'll update here at least once a day.

I doubt that anyone building a system like this would have anything
less than power user class components.

You said price was no object? There are people out there who do custom
jobs. What could be more Limited Edition than a Unique machine?

Here is an example of people who build their own cases. I don't
believe he sells them, but like I said, it's an example.
http://www.envador.com/

This just in! ExoticPC ( http://www.exoticpc.com/ ) just added this
case to it's lineup. (It wasn't there yesterday when I looked) It's
not even available until 7/25/02. It's all brushed aluminum, and very
sleek looking. Here's the text from the website.

"DIGN PC Case
It's a PC! It's a audio component! No, it's the DIGN case from Ahanix!
Among the sexiest cases on the planet, unlike the CoolerMaster ATC600,
this case supports full ATX motherboards! Available for preorder at
$249.95! ETA 7/25/02."

I'm gonna keep searching for the both of us, but let me know if the
DIGN is what you were looking for.

Googlebrain,
Now you got me, that is the angle I have been looking for... Maybe
I'll make one myself.. You are right.. it would have to be really high
end components but that is just part of the package.

Thanks and all the best
