I have an IBM Think Pad, TransNote in the which I loaded MS Works 4.5. The IBM came with Windows 2000 professional. When I open my files of documents, there are not "iconed" as they are on my other PC. I want to see an icon that will distinguish a "word processor" document, from a "database" document, from a "notepad" or "text only" document. |

From your statement, I am not sure what 'not iconed' means. In general, it means like that (don't have icons.. :) but you didn't mention if you can open the file (by double clicking) or not. If you can open the file, then the problem might be on the icon association. You might want to download and install Microsoft TweakUI (linked at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui ) then you can 'refresh' the icons. If you can not open the file (or the above step didn't work), you can do a right-click and choose properties on one of the non-iconed file, and click on the [Change] button. Choose the listed application that matches your file, or you can choose [browse] to point them directly to the executables. OR Open any folder (such as "My Documents") and from the menu choose "Tools" then "Folder Options". A new window will pop up. Choose "File Type" tab, and it will show a list of registered file types, sorted by extension. Scroll down to find your file extension (such as DOC or TXT), choose that extension, and click on the [Advance] button. The Edit File Type window will pop up. Click on [Change Icons] button, and choose from the default choice, or you can also [browse] futher to find the icon that you like. Hope this helped. |

I downloaded Tweakui and WinZip, but could not get the Tweakui to install in Control Panel. I am stuck here. |

Sorry for replying too late, but it looks like you solved the problem yourself. So, you know how to install TweakUI, right? Just right click on the .INF file, and choose 'install'. :) Have a nice day, and thank you for the five stars! :) |
