Question ID: 37516
Environment: Client using Outlook 98 on Win 98 SE, networked on Novell
Netware 4.11.
Problem: Some incoming mail is randomly re-directed from the Incoming
box straight to the Deleted Mail folder, and, sometimes when a mail is
Deleted, other random mails are deleted as well. There are no Rules
set up to do this. I tried using Add/Remove Programs to first
uninstall, and then reinstall Outlook 98, but the mail profile
(Control Panel->Mail icon)remained unaffected (still in regsitry
settings?, and the redirect problems continued after the reinstall.
Antivirus is and has always been updated--(McAffee 4.5.0.x). How can I
stop incoming mail from being sent directly to the Deleted Mail
folder, and mails besides those selected for deletion from being
Deleted?

Have you checked the Blocked Senders list to see if those email
addresses are present there? That is a separate thing from the
Message Rules. If not, please post here and I will answer the
question with detailed instructions on how to check the Blocked
Senders list and remove any emails from it that shouldn't be there.

No, I haven't checked specifically for Blocked Senders--a feature with
which I am not familiar. How do I access it? I have checked for Rules
and Filters and Junk Mail settings, none of which are activated.

One thing I just tried--I updated IE 5.003 to IE 5.5 with SP2. The
user is off today, so I won't be able to hear the results on Outlook
performance until tomorrow.

OK, I talked with the user today, and the problem persists. Blocked
Senders? Any other ideas?

Are you using an Exchange Server or Internet Mail Only?

Could the anti-virus software be automatically placing messages in the
deleted folder?

No exchange server, just Internet mail (Corporate setting in Setup). I
doubt it's the Antivirus putting the mails in Deleted--all the
machines ahve the same antivirus (McAfee 4.5.1) and none of the others
ahve this problem.

from the tools>accounts menu remove all the existing internet
accounts..... thne remove the program and reinstall it...i think then
the trace of the previous installation is removed.

if problem with anti-virus, then u can try by disablling the e-mail
scan option of the antivirus program.

PROBLEM SOLVED:

I solved the problem. I just thought I would post the solution as a
comment here and leave it up for a day or so for the benefit of those
who worked on this quesiton, rather than closing it with no warning.

I de-activated the Outlook Rules Wizard [Tools->Options->Other
tab->Advanced Options->Add-In manager->Uncheck the Rules Wizard
checkbox]. this solved the incoming mail redirect problem.

Thanks for your comments and help.
