How can I print to a printer in another subnet? Here is the situation: This location has 3 public IP numbers. 2 servers, 10 workstation, and 1 big network laser printer. Each server has a public IP. The 3rd IP goes to a NAT router. Behind it sit the 10 workstation, and 1 printer. The printer is on 192.168.1.50 How can I print to the printer from the 2 servers, since they are outside the 192 network. I would prefer a solution that did not involve installing a 2nd Ethernet card in one of the servers, but if others solutions are impractical or expensive (more then $40), then I can probably swallow this. One server is running win XP pro, and one is Win server 2003. Both have all the latest patches. thanx in advnce |

Here's a nice tutorial.... http://support.intel.com/support/netport/10100/30653.htm No, you don't need another network card. You just have to tell NAT to open port 80 or 631 inbound to the (hopefully static) IP address of the printer. Google Search IPP port (hopefully your printer or printer's print server supports Internet Printing). |

crythias-ga, I am a bit confused. I don't have a Intel print server. I have a HP Color LaserJet 4600. Can you find out if it supports IPP? I couldn't tell when i look at hp.com. Also, is I I have to do is Map port 631 on my linksys to the sttic IP of the print, or is ther something else need to get this to work? thanks! |

You should be able to add a printer, network printer, location: http://public.ip.address:631 once you've opened up the port. |

How to use HP Internet Printer Connect Software: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bpj05551 Information Needed to find and print to the Printer http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bpj05552 Since the printer is so new, I have to say "yes" unequivocably, especially since it already has a web server built in. It's all about the model and firmware of your EIO (jet direct) card, rather than the printer. Print out a configuration page and verify the JetDirect Firmware is at G.07.15, H.07.15, or later (bigger numbers). |
