I am curious of the salary of Conan O'Brien from NBC's "Late Night
with Conan O'Brien" show. I had an argument with a friend regarding
the pay of this salary. I believe it to be decent for a celebrity of
his caliber, while my friend believes it to be quite low. I have been
unable to locate any specific information (online or offline) and
would appreciate any response that would shed light on this question.

Dear ruwbox-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question.

According to these sources and many others, Conan O?Brien makes about
$8 million a year. That is a lot of money and more than anyone before
him has made in that time slot, but it is still significantly less
than Letterman and Leno. Now, who won the argument?

September 14, 2003

?After turning down the lure of big money from Fox, which dangled the
opportunity to compete with Letterman's CBS "Late Show" and Leno's
"Tonight" head on, he signed a long-term deal with NBC in early 2002
that pays him roughly $8 million per year.?

?NBC is close to paying roughly $8 million a year to keep ?Late Night?
host Conan O?Brien at the network for another four years. O?Brien?s
representatives and NBC have agreed to the broad strokes of a deal
that, if finalized, would easily make him the highest-paid host ever
in the 12:35 a.m. time slot? His current salary would roughly double to
between $7.5 million and $8.5 million, and NBC would continue to fund
O?Brien?s young ? but already successful ? Conaco Prods.?

That contract was in 2002 which means it is still in effect as we speak.

Thanks for the tip!

"My friend believed that Conan O'Brien's salary was approximately 100
thousand dollars per year..."

LOL! His production assistant probably makes that!

Have a great day.

Holy crow! Thank you for the lightning-quick response! I posted this
question only moments before it was answered. To conclude, I won the
argument. My friend believed that Conan O'Brien's salary was
approximately 100 thousand dollars per year while I believed that his
salary was at minimum 1 million dollars per year.

$100,000? First year associates at major corporate law firms make
abot $140,000. Let your friend know we had a good laugh.
