Dear mickey61-ga,

I assume that it is a typing error as it is actually called Biddesden
House. Because the property is in private ownership, I can find very
little useful information for you.

It is a grade II property in Ludgershall, Near Andover, Wiltshire. It
is described as 18th century with parkland of c.40ha, and with a 1930s
ornamental garden.

It is in the ownership of the Guinness family and is now a Stud Farm.

One interesting piece of history is that Diana Mosley, who was born a
Mitford, married Bryan Guinness, 2nd Baron Moyne, lawyer poet,
novelist. They lived at Biddesden until she eloped with Sir Oswald
Mosley, the UK Fascist leader.

Her full story appears in the Times Obituary of August 13, 2003

Even pictures of the house are few and far between. Here are two.

We also strike it unlucky with the 1881 census which is available
on-line. Only servants are recorded, the owners obviously being
elsewhere on the census night.

A possible source of information is the Hampshire Record Office. Their
database is currently undergoing upgrade until August 2, so I was
unable to search their records. It may be worth contacting them. These
are their details.

I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is
unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before
rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as
soon as I receive it.
Thank you

Dear mickey61-ga,

In a moment?s aberration, I posted the link to the Hampshire Record
Office instead of the Wiltshire Record Office (I always search the
surrounding areas in case of any ?stray? records?).

Their catalogue is not on-line. The contact point is:

Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office

My apologies.

I have just across an amazing new resource. The University of
Leicester's Digital Library of Historical Directories.
http://www.historicaldirectories.org/

These are some entries relevant to Biddesden House.

Post Office Directory 1875
"Biddesden House, with park and gardens, the seat of Henry Everitt
esq.,is situated a mile and a half east of the village; it was built
by General Web, who served under the famous Duke of Marlborough; it
was also for some time the residence of the Duke of Chandos".

Kelly?s Directory 1889
Henry Everitt J.P.

Kelly?s Directory 1911
George J. Gribble ... it was built by General Webb, on the site of a
mansion formerly the residence of the Duke of Chandos.

Post Office Directory 1914
Baring Major Hon. Guy Victor M.P. for Winchester

Sorry about the 'bitty nature' of this answer, but I have just
literally found this new source of information.
