The substance in Absinthe often claimed to be hallucinogenic is thujone, a chemical found in wormwood (Artemisia) species. EU limits for thujone content of Absinthe is supposed to be 10mg/L, for bitters 35mg/L. 35mg/L is probably as strong or stronger than the absinthe sold at the turn of last century. You can read more about thujone here: http://www.absintheonline.com/myth_reality_absinthe.htm These page gives the content of thujone in different brands and/or ship to the US: http://www.laboheme.uk.com/en-gb/front.html http://www.1a-absinth.com/shop3en/index.html?-_max._thujone.htm http://www.greenfairy.org/catalog.htm |
