I am going on a group trip to Asia, flying on United. The cost of
upgrading to business or first class is too expensive. My only
frequent flyer program is MilesOne. MilesOne has advised that I
cannot use miles to upgrade. I see that you can buy United upgrades
on Ebay for approximately $300 one-way, but there is no guarantee that
you will be able to use the upgrade, as it depends on availability at
flight time.

Any ideas on how I can either use my MilesOne miles, or purchase
reasonably priced upgrade which can be guaranteed for use on the
flight?

Hi Curious,

While you're working on your upgrade issue, I hope you're in contact
with the airline about your seat assignment and trying to get yourself
a bulkhead row seat. That way you'll have leg room and a more
comfortable flight even if you end up in economy class after all your
effort.

You didn't indicate how soon your trip is. If you still have several
months before your travel date, perhaps you should consider joining
United's frequent flyer program (Mileage Plus). There are a number of
ways to earn miles with that program, including gifts from others and
purchasing miles yourself. The following page may be helpful.

I am a frequent international flyer. I have never been on a flight
where all business class seats were full, so I would imagine that you
can get your upgrade even at the last minute provided you can find a
way to get the miles.

Good luck! Enjoy your trip, even if you get stuck in economy class
after all your efforts :)
