I would gratefully appreciate knowing the size of the US market for
syringes. In particular, I would like to know:
1) The number of syringes sold in the US per year. By this, I mean
numbers of units, not $ in sales. Sales $ figures would be welcome as
well, but not in the absence of units figures.
2) A breakout of these unit numbers along target-use lines.
Categories of particular interest would include: (a) insulin; (b)
vaccinations/immunizations; (c) flu shots; (d) other. Further
breakouts in the "other" category woud be welcome, but not essential.
Even a breakout of insulin vs. non-insulin would be a good start.

?Estimates of current, global annual syringe sales are US$5 billion
(30 billion units), including US$1.24 billion in the United States and
US$103 million (800 million units) in Australia.

Unitract is focusing predominantly on the safety, insulin and
hypodermic components of the syringe market, which represents
approximately 93% of total unit volumes in Australia and the US. Of
this targeted market, approximately 57% are insulin syringes, 28%
safety syringes and 15% hypodermics. Safety syringes are expected to
grow to about half the market by 2006, largely resulting from
governments implementing safety syringe technology legislation.?

Closest I can get thus far is this site:

==========

http://www.safeneedledisposal.org/genprob.html

Each year some 8 million syringe users will administer 2-3 billion
injections outside traditional health care facilities.

Two-thirds of those ?at-home? injections are self-administered by
people with diabetes and patients receiving home health treatment
(i.e., allergies, infertility, multiple sclerosis, even veterinary
care).

Another one-third are attributed to injection drug users (IDU) using
illicit drugs like heroin and cocaine.

More detailed information seems to reside only in rather high-priced
market study reports. However, perhaps the above info will be a help
to you or other researchers in looking for additional details on this
