To celebrate a significant wedding anniversary, my wife and I are
looking for a wide range of alternative vacation ideas from which to
choose.

Rather than just a sightseeing vacation we are looking for something
with a learning activity as the main focus. The range of ideas that
come to mind are learning beginning level tantra/ sacred sexuality, or
learning a massage technique, or a couple?s retreat focused on our
relationship, or a cooking class, or drawing/paint class, or
photography class or perhaps some worthwhile volunteer activity.

We are in our mid 50?s and are expatriates living outside of North America.

The parameters are : 1. it is NOT in North or South America (other
than that - we are open to location choice) ; 2 it is in a time frame
from mid September to end November 2004 and 3. The service providers
can speak English reasonably well. 4. The duration could range from 5
to 15 days.

In the response I am looking for a wide range of alternative ideas
(from "mild" to "wild")for a unique anniversary experience keeping in
mind the parameters mentioned earlier.

Hello sandybeach-ga,

Would you be willing to accept weekend or 3 day workshops? I've been
doing some searching, have some information for you, however, I'm
finding a lot of the better programs are 2 or 3 day, please let me
know if those would be acceptable as well.

A wonderful painting holiday you could go on as a couple would be in
South West France at Le Manoir des Anges. They offer weeklong classes
starting on Sunday and going to Saturday of the next week. You may
reserve a suite in the Manor, which is beautiful. You can see pictures
of some of the accommodations on the website. Both breakfast and
dinner are served as well. Here is some history of the Manor taken
from the website.

?Le Manoir des Anges, an early 19th century maison viticole, began
life as a grand home for a wealthy wine baron. It took four years to
build the main house with its fine carved stone walls and roman
portals. Originally known as Les Près de L?Hôpiteau, the meadows of
L?Hôpiteau, the house was set as it is today in nearly 5 acres of
parkland gently sloping down to the little stream which borders the
property. The vineyards, sunflower and cornfields which surround the
house originally belonged to Le Manoir but where gradually sold by
previous owners who started using the house as a home rather than for
wine and cognac production.
The extensive cellars and chais bear witness to the Manoir?s past and
the derivation of its name. Close observation of the walls above the
cellars reveals a smoky black patina which was caused by maturing
cognac evaporating from the oak barrels once stored there. This is
charmingly referred to as La Part des Anges ? The Angels Share. The
angels have obviously enjoyed this heady mixture in distilleries and
grand houses like the Manoir for many generations. The house is thus
named affectionately after these tipsy angels, Le Manoir des Anges!?
Helen Humphrey would be your instructor at the Manor. Her credentials
and background would seem to make for a wonderful time in class.

Hello again,

One of our wonderful researchers Digsalot-ga, pointed me to this as well for you.

You could work on an archaeological dig as a volunteer. It seems there
are positions located worldwide. This seems worth checking out!

You can find a number of oppurtunities here:

Thanks to Digsalot, and once again, have a great vacation!

Why not visit the Maldives Islands? You could learn different types of
massage techniques from a variety of resort islands and hotels. Please
take a look at www.innermaldives.com
