Question ID: 376051
Hi, we are looking for an email tool to send emails to our subscriber
base (more than 100.000). We have already emailed our registered users
with different system but never really satisfied.
We need:
a) a software that can be installed on our servers (not outsourced
services such as constant contact, or vertical response), and doesn't
cost a fortune. We use linux servers and have mysql db.
b) possibility of sending html email,
c)uploading list of email address from a csv file
d)possibility on setting rules on bounced back\undeliverable mails
(how many times try again)
e) getting simple stats (how many mail delivered)
f) possibility of setting speed of delivery
g) a user friendly interface to manage the campaign so that also non
technical people can send in our office

At the end, a tool pretty simple, but stable and capable of delivering
few hundreds of thousands mail, in a day max, via our servers, which
are for sure powerful enough.

We would like to have:
a) a list of potential softwares we could use,
b) verification of the compatibility with our technologies (linux, mysql)
c) a comparison of the different software and features (who are the
suppliers, reputation, type of customers)
d) pricing of software

Thanks a lot!

Hi, xandas. Thank you for your question.

I have found various potential pieces of software that can be
installed on your machine. Note that when I say they require Apache,
this means they will run on any computer that Apache will run on,
which includes Linux/Unix.

- 1-2-All : http://www.activecampaign.com/12all/

  Cost: $97
  Developer: ActiveCampaign
Requirements: PHP 4.1 with Zend Optimizer, MySQL 3.23
  Demo: http://www.activecampaign.com/12all/demo.php

According to the features page
(http://www.activecampaign.com/12all/feature_tour.php), this software
allows everything you need. It is also fairly easy to use, and has a
number of testimonials
(http://www.activecampaign.com/12all/feature_testimonials.php). This
appears to be one of the best options available.

- oemPro : http://www.oemp.com/

  Cost: $199
  Developer: octeth
  Requirements: Apache, PHP, MySQL
  Demo: http://www.oemp.com/demo.php

This software seems to allow all the features you require, and is
fairly easy to use. It can cope with up to 2.5M emails per day, which
is more than enough. The software has lots of favourable reviews, and
you can see several of their bigger clients at
http://www.oemp.com/clients.php

- NewsletterPro : http://www.bluelark.com/Products/newsletterpro/index.php

  Cost: $99
  Developer: bluelark
Requirements: PHP 4.1 or higher, MySQL 3.23 or higher
  Demo: http://www.bluelark.com/Products/newsletterpro/demo.php
(Also a 15 day free trial available)

This software offers almost all the features you require (the only one
missing is the speed of delivery option). It can send up to 25,000
messages per hour, which should meet your needs. It is fairly easy to
use.

- AcmeList Plus : http://www.acmelist.com/acmelist_plus/

  Cost: $249
  Developer: AcmeList
Requirements: Apache, Perl 5.6, MySQL 3.23, optionally Mod Perl
Demo: None (But there seems to be a free download of some kind available)

This software seems to do everything you want. There are testimonials
available from various sites at
http://www.acmelist.com/testimonal.html. There is also a Pro version
that includes it's own MTA, but costs an additional $754!

- phpList : http://tincan.co.uk/phplist

  Cost: Free
  Developer: tincan
Requirements: PHP 4.3 or later, MySQL 3.23 or later
  Demo: http://www.phplist.com/lists/admin/

This software seems to be a pretty powerful free alternative. It does
not seem to have the ability to limit messages sent per period, and it
isn't very easy to use. But it is free.

If these options are unsuitable, or you have any questions, please
feel free to request a clarification.

Don't forget Mailman... www.list.org It's free/GPL and it's in place
lots of places. e) and f) of your first queries are handled
internally. Speed of delivery is all about the sendmail.
