I'm trying to find out which questionnaires are most commonly used to
generate user profiles for online applications. Such questionnaires
could be psychometrics or specifically designed personality
inventories. Ideally all references should be from academic journals
and/or conferences as opposed to unpublished private work, although
I'm open to suggestions.

The context for this question is Human Computer Interaction (HCI) - in
order to develop user interfaces for targeted user groups I need to
understand more about my users, and so giving them a questionnaire
would help me better understand and using user-centred design
principles allow better interfaces to be designed for. Again, ideally
such questionnaires will be able to be administered remotely.

Hi,

Can't help you much with the answer you are looking for, but when you
get that answer and are ready to build your online surgey/questioner
pages, chcek this package out for putting that together for you. It is
OpenSource, free to non-profit (not sure about for profit usage) and
I've been messing with it for little over a month now, and find it
amazingly useful. It is a complete survey system, which means it has
logic, and various types of question fields. Anyway, I saw your
question and thought you might find it interesting if nothing else.
The setup is very easy.
