Question ID: 376175
I have a question about remote access in Windows XP professional. I
previously had my computer running this OS set up for remote access
and I could sign on from elsewhere. For a few reasons I had to
reformat harddrive and relaod OS and applications. Computer works
much better now, but when I try to sign on as remote user, it finds
the IP & asks for logon. I logon as adminitrator with password, and
get message that "the local policies of this system do not allow you
to logon interactively." - ie, it is recognozing me as a user, but
not granting permission.

I look at my local security policy, and the security setting for
"Allow logon through terminal services" is blank. 2 questions
1) Should I change this to adminitraor to get access from remote computer?
2) Why would this not have the default adminitrator value - again,
this worked before I reloaded. Of note, another diffeence is when I
reloaded a user was created at ASP.NET. Does this affect it? Do I
want this as a user?

Thanks

Hello:

This problem is because you havent configurated the user is not a
member of the local Remote Desktop Users group. If you are using
Administrator account, try to create a new one, and use it here.

To add the user, do the following:

1. Press WindowsKey+Pause.(Or Start, click "Control Panel", doble
click on "System".)
2. Select the tab "Remote".
3. Click "Select Remote Users".
4. Click "Add type" in the user account name.
5. Click OK.

NOTE: If u want to add more than 1 user, separate the users with semicolon.

Answering your questions:
1) No, you can use any user account to log in from remote computer.
You have to "tell" to Windows who users accounts can do that.
2) Windows allways allow to the Administrators account to have access
from remotes computers.

Try to do the previous method and tell me if worked it or not.

Good luck. :)
