Question ID: 376295
I have an interest in the aforementioned Joyce Tregear who was
definitely around London in 1940 and who, supposedly, was a British
film star who used the stage name of Lillian Bell.

British film stars of that era were as rare as hen's teeth and I would
have thought that one name or other would have popped up from
somewhere.

But try as I might ... NOWT!

Would some G-Genius now please Find the Lady?

Many thanks!

Bryan, I suppose it is not Lilian Bel (Sérénade au Texas, France 1958)?

Hi, Freddy

It could be but I don't think so.

I tried a few different spellings but never thought of a Frenchified version.

My Lily (or Lilli) was decidedly British and she had apparently
established herself as a 'Film Star' by 1940.

I noticed that The Bluebell Girls were featured in 'Sérénade au
Texas'. I know a woman who once was. I'll look her up later and ask.

By the way, she is unrecognisable today from the gorgeous young woman of yesterday.

Many thanks for your interest, next time you are in London, I'll buy you lunch.

All the Best

Bryan

Wouldn't happen to be Lillian Bond now, would it...?

If I'm right, fish and chips and a brew is on you.

Hi, Paf

Many thanks for the suggestion but I am pretty sure it's not Lillian
Bond that I am seeking because she was evidently filming in 1940/1941
when I know for sure that my Lil had been detained at His Majesty's
pleasure.

Interesting thought!

You deserve fish & chips and a brew anyway.

All the Best

Bryan

Incidentally my little Bluebell is on holiday this week so I am being
thwarted at every turn.

"International Film Archive" and "International Film Index"
may be helpful (several libraries, e.g. BL).

Electronic resources in the British Library St Pancras Reading Rooms:
http://www.bl.uk/collections/wider/eresources/title/eresourcesi.html#I

However, these two databases are "not available outside British
Library St Pancras Reading Rooms":

More on "FIAF International FilmArchive Database":

I shall let you know the next time I am in London. Well, currently I'm
on my way to Switzerland ...

Very many thanks, Freddy

I have now got a fix on the lady in question, her mum & dad and a
newspaper reference.

I'm in business!

Have a great time counting your money in Zurich. Bahnhofstrasse, I presume?

Warmest regards

Bryan
