Hello. Here are the relevant formulae: Cylinder Surface Area = Lateral Area + 2 (Base Area) Lateral Area = Cbh Circumference Base ( Cb ) = 2 (pi) r Base Area = (pi) r^2 http://microgeometry.netfirms.com/content/solidcylinder.html -------- So... Base Area = (pi) r^2 = pi 8^2 = 64pi = 201.06 square inches Circumference Base ( Cb ) = 2 (pi) r Cb = 2 (pi)8 Cb = 16pi Cb = 50.265 inches Lateral Area = Cb(h) = 50.265 inches x 25 inches = 1256.64 square inches Thus... Surface Area = Lateral Area + 2 (Base Area) = 1256.64 sq in + 2 (201.06 sq in) = 1256.64 sq in + 402.12 sq in = 1658.76 square inches -------------------------------- search strategy: cylinder surface area I hope this helps. |
