Hi Willonthehill,

Although the song has been covered several times, which is common in
Reggae circles with any song that is this much of a smash, it was in
fact Lester Bullock AKA Dillinger who wrote and originally recorded
this single.

Now for the hard part, proving this.

Unfortunately, Reggae is not as well documented online as most music
is. It makes it very hard to find liner notes or writing credits for
songs. I was able to find three sources immediately.

1. IMDB.com lists "Cocaine on my brain" as one of the songs in the
movie Club Dread. It clearly lists Bullock as the writer.
International Movie Database
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0331953/soundtrack
""Cocaine in My Brain"
Written by Lester Bullock
Performed by Dillinger
Courtesy of Sanctuary Records Group"

2. I found a french website, and although I do not speak french, I can
clearly see the writing credits for this song.
Universal Music
http://www.universalmusic.fr/servlet/FrontProductServlet?action=view&art_id=1173&product_id=60121538522
"Cocaine in my brain
INTERPRETE VOCAL : Dillinger
AUTEUR/COMPOSITEUR : Bullock Lester"

3. Once again suffering from a translation issue, is a German website
but again the writing credit to Bullock is clear.
Musicline
http://www.musicline.de/de/product/Dillinger/Ultimate+Collection/CD/044006316123
"4.Cocaine In My Brain
Bullock,Lester"

Google search terminology: "cocaine in my brain" Lester Bullock

I hope this is enough evidence to support Dillinger as the original
artist, if not feel free to ask for a clarification, at which time I
will attempt to find more ways to link Lester Bullock/Dillinger to the
original recording and writing of this song.
