Hello Photoman_6

Thank-you for your question, it is an interesting one that I am sure I
will be able to help you with as I have done this myself! This can
all be easily achieved with only a few cheap cables and your existing
remote controls.

What you need to do is to split the output from your device into audio
and video outputs. How you do this will depend on the plugs you have
on the back of your device. I hooked my VHS recorder to my stereo
system amplifier which had an option of either a SCART or PHONO
output.

The phono output plugs are three small plugs usually coloured yellow
(for video), red and white (for audio). The cable from the video
(yellow) plug always goes directly to the TV set as you do not need to
amplify this signal. All I then needed to do was to connect a double
phono lead from the red/white sockets on the back of my video to the
corresponding input holes on my stereo amplifier. The output holes on
the amplifier were then connected to the corresponding holes on the TV
set.

Whenever I wish to listen in stereo I simply hit the mute button on
the TV and switch the amplifier on, if I want to listen in mono I
leave the amplifier switched off and listen through my TV set.

This could also easily have been solved by using a SCART cable that
split into phono leads.

Hopefully this answer will give you the knowledge to be able to
connect your system as required. If you still need some more help I
would be grateful if you could let me know what sockets you have on
the back of your TV/DVD/VHS/Amplifier so that I can give you a
complete answer. It would also help to know where you are located so
that I can give you some example links for the cables you will need.

If you have any further questions or queries on this subject please
ask for clarification and I will do my best to help you.

Thanks for your answer. I was thinking along those lines myself. So,
given that the dvd and vcr have the same type of outlets, that would
work for them too, right?
