I have been developing a Software product for over 2 years now. I am now ready to have a programmer actually build my product. My question is, where can I find a Company or a programmer to partner up with me to build my software. I am unable to outright pay for a Programmer to develop my software so it would have to some kind of freelancer that would want to be involved. If you know of a market place where I may be able to contact someone that would be great. |

I do know of professionals, but those I know profess allegiance to the "good = fast + correct" religion, and only code in C (well, occasional fortran or assembly). They refuse to tolerate C++, java, or any scripting language... and they are damn expensive (partly because of what they bring to the project; PhD math, PhD Comp Sci, and decades of experience). General advice is to visit the computer science department of a university nearby you... there are typically some talented joung people around such places who have interest in the sort of thing you allude to. |

A university computer science program is a good idea, as ignorant suggests. Let me offer one related suggestion: no matter who you use, make sure that you get them to sign a contract assigning to you all their rights in the software they develop for you. From your question I am assuming that all you can offer them is a nominal hourly fee or perhaps a right to share in the proceeds of your sales? If so, it may be difficult to get them to forego all their rights as I suggest, but unless you do that you will have legal entanglements down the road since they will be able to claim a proprietary interest in what you are attempting to license to third parties as ~your~software. |

It might help to know more specifics about the project, and if possible the preferred language. You could try putting a post up at http://www.craigslist.org. I don't know too many programmers who will work for free. A promise of future profits is nice, but it doesn't help with bills. |
