This artist had a popular song in the mid 80s. The hook was "in love,
you and i, you and i, you and i. Together we can conquer the world.
Because in my mind, we will stay here for always... hook. I also
believe he was with Mowtown but stopped recording because of a
contractual dispute. One of his songs was also the theme song for
Soul Train. Someone, please help me with this, I won't be able to
sleep until i have an answer

Hello.

I believe that you're thinking of "You and I" by Stevie Wonder.

Here's an excerpt from the lyrics:

"Cause' in my mind, you will stay here always,
In love, you and I, you and I, you and I, you and I,
In my mind we can conquer the world
In love, you and I, you and I, you and I."

It's track #3 on Stevie Wonder's album "Talking Book."

The song, originally recording by Stevie Wonder, has also been
recorded by other artists includings Barbra Striesand.

search strategy:
"you and i you and i" "conquer the world"

I hope this helps.

You might also be thinking of O'Bryan who recorded a cover-version of
Stevie Wonder's "You and I" as well as the Soul Train theme song.

Yep, I definitely think O'Bryan is the singer that you have in mind:

Notice some of the customer reviews on the Amazon.com page:

"I don't care who you are or where you are from, many people know
O'Bryan because of A) "LoveLite" (which hit #1 in the States in 84) B)
his "You and I" cover, litterally and musically (Yes, that was the
cover with him sitting in front of the Red sports car) or C) The Soul
Train Theme song that was used from 83-87."

"THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONAL CD BY A MAN WITH AN EXCEPTIONAL VOICE IT
BRINGS BACK A WHOLE LOT OF MEMORIES FOR ME LOVELITE,GIGGILO,FREAKY,
STEVIE WONDER'S YOU AND I ,"
