Hi!

I am looking for:
- The total number of INTRANET pages worldwide in 2001, 2002, 2003
(and 2004 if available).
- Alternatively, the total number of terabytes available on INTRANETS
worldwide in 2001, 2002, 2003 (and 2004 if available) would do.
- Alternatively, the worldwide penetration of intranets worldwide
and/or in the USA and/or in Europe and /or in Japan in 2001, 2002,
2003 (and 2004 if available) would do. Penetration could be defined
here as number of companies with intranets over total number of
companies.

Many thanks and good luck

Candesic --

There may be some difficulties in getting the level of detail that
you're seeking (by country, with projections) but the best-known
studies of the Internet, intranets and the "deep web" have been done
in the "How Much Information" studies at UC Berkeley:
http://www.sims.berkeley.edu/research/projects/how-much-info-2003/internet.htm

It would be helpful for researchers to know how well the Berkeley
report answers your question.

Hi!

thanks for your comments (which all make a lot of sense). Would it
then be possible to find any information which would give an idea of
the growth of the amount of content available on intranets?

Short of this, the number of intranet software downloads (suggested by
one of the researchers) would be interesting.

Otherwise, I suppose it should be possible to find some data on the
growth in penetration of intranets (how has the share of businesses
which have intranets risen?).

Intranet definition: I am really trying to assess the growth in the
amount of (useful) information workers can have access to through
intranets (screen savers would be out of scope!)

Time horizon: Sufficient to give me a sense of what that growth is

Geographic focus: The world would be good. Otherwise, the USA would be
a good proxy. Any info on Europe and Japan is a definite plus.

Hope this clarifies things. Good luck!

PS: The Berkeley study is very interesting but does not mention intranets very much

I doubt that you'll be able to get that answer, even with a $20
payment, which is very low considering the legwork required to give
that answer. It also can never be exact, as you're asking about
something that can't be calculated. Figure, you might be able to find
Intranet software that is downloaded. You *might* be able to find some
businesses who have Intranet software, but there is no reason for a
business to tell anyone how many Intranet pages they might have, how
much data they're storing, etc. It's just as likely to ask how many
Linux users are worldwide. It, too, will never be exact, as people
download and install multiple copies, some which never connect to the
Internet.

Also consider that the researchers only receive 75% of the List Price.

Perhaps if you also define some accuracy ranges that may be
acceptable, as well as adjusting your List Price...

I seems to me, that every letter typed on a word processer might be
concidered on an INTRANET. Some screen savers programs create the
equivent of 10,000 pages of data per year. Perhaps your definition of
INTRANET will attract a researcher. Neil

The company I work for (who I can't name) has sveral hundred, if not
thousand "Intranet" pages... It's mostly a local company (New York,
New Jersey and Connecticut areas)... It's also growing on a daily
basis as it's used to communicate information to all departments with
in the company (including some non-related industries the company is
involved in)

One of the previous posters is correct, there may not be any way to
answer this question accurately. The reason they are Intranet and not
Internet (or Extranet) pages is because they are non-public, hence the
quantities of those pages would also be non-public.
