I am a Web designer that is looking for information on how to translate a Web site into a foreign language. I currently have the site in English. Once I have had a translator translate the text for me, how do I apply that text in HTML and what is needed on the Web browser's side to view it? As I understand it, if you want to view a site in a foreign language, you need to set your browser to read a foreign language by telling it which font to use. Where do you get such fonts? I found some information to take into consideration when translating a site, at: http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/manage/localization_audience/index.html However, it does not say how to technically do it.

Thanks for asking! It will likely be simpler that you think. You will not need to translate any of your source code (HTML or other markup and programming code such as Perl, Java, Javascript) since you are running on US servers in English. You will need to have only text translated. Replace English text (including menu items) with the translated German (or French) text. Use the Language Meta Tag to "inform" browsers of the correct language. Language Meta Tag List http://www.submitcorner.com/Guide/Meta/language.shtml Replacing the < and > with [ and ] <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Language" content="EN"> - English <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Language" content="DE"> - German <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Language" content="FR"> - French Speakers/readers of these languages will very likely have the proper fonts installed. They are part of a computer operating system. International Keyboards ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll find a wealth of international/keyboard information, including keyboard installation instructions. You may also use ASCII codes to print any foreign characters. Typing Foreign Language Characters on your Mac or PC http://www.starr.net/is/type/kbh.html#intl Google Search Terms ----------------------------------------------------------------------- enable foreign fonts win meta tag language en de fr I hope you find this information useful. If anything is unclear, or you need further info, please, feel free to ask for clarification. ---larre

I have seen Babelfish, but I need to know how to create a new page in a foreign language, not just translate an existing one. |
