This is kind of a unique question, but I would guess one of you might
be able to help me out.

I am tall and skinny. I have a hell of a time finding regular
t-shirts, button up shirts, polo shirts, etc. that fit me. They are
always too wide and not long enough. I could buy shirts that are long
enough and have them tailored, but I'd prefer not you.

I found out that Eddie Bauer makes some of their shirts in "Medium
Tall". I tried one on and it fit well. The problem is that they don't
make many of their shirts in "Medium Tall" and the ones that they do,
that I like, are out of stock online (they don't carry "Medium Tall"
in any of their retail stores).

I also found that Kirra (see:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search.html/sr=3-1/qid=1090569624/ref=sr_3_1/104-5939615-9033550?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=1045630&keywords=kirra&rh=a%3A1036682%2Ck%2Ca%3A1044440%2Ca%3A1045630)
and Trans Nine (see:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search.html/sr=3-1/qid=1090569620/ref=sr_3_1/104-5939615-9033550?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=1045630&keywords=trans%20nine&rh=a%3A1036682%2Ck%2Ca%3A1044440%2Ca%3A1045630)
button up shirts (haven't tried any of their other kinds) in Large fit
me well. The issue with them is that they only make striped "surfer"
style shirts and only in short sleeved. I don't completely dislike
them, but I don't want to only own them.

So my question is, can you provide me with a few different
companies/stores/websites that sell stylish, solid color and pattern,
button up and polo shirts in sizes that might fit me, a young man with
a long and slim upper body?

I really appreciate it!

If you need any more details please let me know!

Hey werdup,

Sucks trying to find clothes if you don't live off the rack, add to
the trouble when you want shoes in size 14. If you could give me some
idea of your actual sizes, I would be able to reccomend several stores
which cater to much taller individuals, as well as some tips to
getting longer shirts from regular stores.

The best bet would be if you took a shirt you truly feel fits you
correctly, then measure it from armpit to armpit, and collar to shirt
band. this will give a width and length. List those as W= and L=

Then put on a dress shirt that you feel is as close to perfect for
your neck and chest, even if it isn't long enough. I will need the
neck size and chest size of that shirt. Normally men's dress shirts
will be labled as follows 18/32 which is the neck size and sleeve
length. I need the neck size more then the sleeve length. It wouldn't
hurt to add your waist size.

Sooner you can get me this information the sooner I can send you some nice links.

Hi Mother911! (interesting nickname :)

I am 6'3" tall and weigh anywhere from 165 to 170 pounds. A lot of my
height is in my legs.

Here are the measurements you asked for:

W=22 to 23 inches

L=29 to 30 inches on front of the shirt (33 to 34 inches from back )

I don't have a dress shirt that has a neck or chest size. I measured
myself with a tape measure, but I don't know if that will work?

Neck=15.5 inches (measured circumference along middle of neck)

Chest= 39 inches (measured circumference along nipple line)

Sleeve= 25 inches along top of sleeve, 21 inches along bottom of
sleeve (measured from end of sleeve to armpit/top of shoulder where it
was sewn onto shirt)

Waist=33.5 inches (measured two or three inches below navel)

Let me know if there is any other information you need.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it!

Hi Werdup,

I figured out your problem, you made the mistake of being tall and
athletic. If you were just a little out of shape (like some un-named
researchers) there would be a much simpler choice for you.
Unfortunately most big and tall stores start with a waist size and
neck size larger then you, but perfect for your height. Off the rack
standard size stores end right before your height. I assume this means
tucking in shirts, finding long sleeves that fit, and not having the
double over the back is fairly impossible.

The good news:

Several stores have finally caught on. The first one is your best bet,
it's a major clothing store, and there is probably one local to you.
If not they definitely ship and are reasonably priced.

JC Penny

That giant 6 page long link goes to men's tall sizes, a special extra tall section.

The Gap
http://www.gap.com/asp/shops/gap/m_tall.asp?wdid=1999
The gap has a separate tall man's section as well. They have an
extremely nice selection, and offer a 2-inch length over your medium
sized shirts and an extra inch to the arms.

Eddie Bauer
http://www.eddiebauer.com/eb/cat_default.asp?nv=2|21472|21306
Eddie Bauer has their own tall size choice included on the page with
their clothing. It adds 2 inches to the length of the shirt and
sleeves.

Lands End
http://www.landsend.com/cd/index/fp/0,,351,00.html?sid=8949019840929178570
Lands End has a private section for tall/long. It features a large
selection of items, and it claims to have shirts that are 2 inches
longer in length, and 1 1/2 inches longer in the sleeves.

Orvis
http://www.orvis.com/store/search_results.asp?keyword=tall&refine=3&nav=10002&sort=0
Orvis offers a smaller more select group of clothing in their tall
section. It offers clothing that is approximately 2 inches in sleeve
length and no mention of shirt length.

REI
http://www.rei.com/rei/gearshop/sizefinder/mens_sf.html
This site features more active/outdoors type clothing. The sizing is
similar to all the other sites I?ve chosen, 2 inches in shirt length,
and 1 1/2 in sleeve length.

I hope this provides you with some ample shopping. If you feel there
is something more you require please feel free to request a
clarification before rating this question.

p.s. Good luck I know the nightmare of finding clothing when you don't
wear anything off the rack. I will say you definitely have a harder
time then I do based on being athletic. Medium tall is not an easy
size to find. The upside to this is that some stores are starting to
realize that many Americans are over 6'2" and require longer sleeves
and shirts, not to mention ties. Perhaps the airlines will catch on
and move the seats a little further apart to accommodate someone
taller then 4'9".

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

Being 6'9" tall and weighing in at 225 pounds I know how you feel , I
get most my shirts (dress, polo, T and otherwise) from Landsend , they
fit very nicely and the sleeves (one of my pet peeves) are long enough

You may also want to consider contacting Eddie Bauer Co. and Kirra Co.
directly by e-mail or letter to inquire to see if they have any more
of the particular product size you were interested in. They may know
of a source that they can refer you to (a store or supplier who buys
their products).

Nobody mentioned L,L. Bean. llbean.com has tall sizes in every last
thing! Never shopped there though. Compare that to REI which has 25
items at the moment in tall.
