Having just read the download of the council of Trent submitted by
Corwin02, I am amazed and saddened by the total lack of the word
"Love". But other words were there in abundance.
Denied..intrigue..outwitted..no concession..sale of
indulgences..condemn..anathema..real heresies..invocation of
saints..worship of relics..doctrine of purgatory..Seems to me these
are all HATE attitudes. Jesus said that no man can come to the Father
EXCEPT through him [ Jesus} John 14;6,14. Jesus said to worship in
SPIRIT AND TRUTH, John 4;24.."God is a spirit, and those worshiping
Him must worship WITH spirit and truth". Nothing about relics. God
made very sure that no relics were left behind when Jesus was returned
to heaven. God wanted people to follow Jesus` EXAMPLE, in behaviour,
not to worship items that Jesus may have used. Of course He used a cup
and was buried in a shroud. But these items, even if they still exist,
cannot save our lives on God`s day of judgement. And purgatory or more
commonly known, hell and the doctrine of hellfire. A loving God would
never be so cruel. Right now, we are all due to die eventually, and
this is the price we pay for being sinners. The book of Revelation
clearly states that in God`s future plan for man, death will be done
away with. Rev. 20;14.."And death and Hades were hurled into the lake
of fire. this means the second death, the lake of fire. A final and
total destruction. This final oblivion is reserved fopr those who
refuse to be humble enough to accept God`s plan for us. But match this
with Rev. 21;4.." And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and
death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be
anymore, the former things have passed away. So some will keep on
living having no death and also no sickness or pain, and having no
death, there can be no mourning. Seems like those ones will live and
live and live...forever. If we all went to heaven, death would have to
continue to get us there. But heavens got myriads of angels, all
created before man...And they continually praise and worship God for
all the wondrous things He has done and is doing for man. No! man`s
proper place is ON the earth, that God made for us. Proverbs
2;21.."For the upright are the ones that will RESIDE IN THE EARTH and
the blameless are the ones that WILL BE LEFT OVER in it..22..As
regards the wicked, they will be cut off FROM THE VERY EARTH and as
for the treacherous, they will be torn away from it. So for all its
verbosity, the council of Trent and all those who participated and all
those who still maintain its directions, do not have a very bright
future.

I do wish those who do not have the Catholic Faith and who certainly,
because they are not Catholic, know nothing of Catholic Tradition
would refrain from answering this kind of question. The Council of
Trent was called in order to reform certain actual abuses in the
Catholic Church and to answer the challenge to faith thrown down by
Luther, Calvin, et al. The scope of the work done by this council,
which met from 1545 to 1564, is far too great to go into much detail
here. You would do well to refer to authoritative works on this
council, such as THE CANONS AND DECREES OF THE COUNCIL OF TRENT,
published by Tan Books, which you can find either directly at the Tan
Books site or from Amazon.com. Meantime, keep in mind two things.
Trent reaffirmed the Apostolic Faith of the Roman Catholic Church,
which includes love of all mankind, but no toleration for error in
doctrine. The Council would have been derelict in its duty of
protecting the Faith if it had passed over the new teachings of Luther
and Calvin without condemning them. At the same time, Trent
encouraged the founding of seminaries to train priests, fostered the
reform of the Mass--which today we call the Tridentine Latin Mass or
Old Mass, and ordered the publication of a catechism for the use of
parish priests in their preaching--now called the Roman Catechism or
the Catechism of the Council of Trent. You can find many books
covering the various facets of the work of the Council of Trent at the
Tan Books site.
