Hi, pugwashjw-ga:

It is not possible to post images on the Google Answers site, only text.

However the text can include links to images hosted elsewhere on the Web.

I can readily appreciate that certain Questions require images of
various kinds for clarity, and there are several examples of asking
Questions that include these sorts of links.

It is recommended that links be posted in a way that preserves your
privacy. Would you be interested in an Answer that outlines the steps
to upload images from your hard drive to Web sites that allow posting
images in this way? The links created in this manner can then be used
to support the kinds of technical Questions you are concerned with.

What I need answered is this. I have a home built self steering unit
for a yacht. Comprising vane, counterweight, support assembly and
plywood base. The whole mounts on a stainless steel pipe frame fitted
to the yacht. My knowledge of the engineering is limited as to its
operation and I suspect there may be some component/s missing. It
needs to be viewed by an expert who can say whethet it is a viable
unit. I have the photos of it on file on hard drive and would like to
publish them on GA to get some answers, either from researchers or
commenters. your suggestion sounds good. how would get these images
to GA for viewing? Thanks.

Hi, pugwashjw-ga:

Here are three sites that offer free (with some restrictions) "image
hosting" on the Web:

http://community.webshots.com

http://www.villagephotos.com

http://www.photobucket.com

I could add to the list, but you can easily find more for yourself by
searching Google using keyword phrase "image hosting". It seems to be
a fairly high turnover business, with many sites already out of
commission, but these three have been around for some time now.

Anyway, have a look and let me know if there's one you'd like me to
drill down and post specific directions for using!

thanks in advance,
mathtalk-ga

Thanks Mathtalk.. The first suggestion, Webshots, I already have but
it has installed a LAUNCHER.EXE file, 2 of, on my harddrive , and in
my latest question a commenter says they are spyware. I will be
deleting them. I`ll look into the other two and leave the question
open for a while, Thanks. Pug.

for Mathtalk. I think I have solv ed the computer question by sending
the photos to a site called Photobucket, as suggested. The link to it
is now open to the public...GA researchers and commenters. I`ll sit
back and see what happens. thanks. PW
