On page 46 of Eric Alterman's book "What Liberal Media?", he argues
that the 50 yard line of politics has been moved so far to the Right,
that anyone with fairly Centrist views today is considered a Leftist.
he makes the following reference: "Nixon was a conservative in his
day, but the positions he took in 1968 were well to the left [Left!]
of those taken by Al Gore in the 2000 election. Eisenhower's views on
the defense budget as enunciated in his famous farewell address in
1961 can barely find a home in the left-wing fringe of the Democratic
Party today. ... ..."

i would like the cold hard facts about these differences. for
instance, the particular points of Nixon's positions compared to
Gore's positions. for my own arguments to be convincing, i will also
require "legitimate" links to back the figures up. (that is, a .gov
link would be great, but a link from conspiracytheoristwhacko.com
gets no points.)

thanks!!!
