Question ID: 379142
I have been advised by a usually reliable source that the
?Informationsheft GB? (Special Wanted List GB) was compiled by two
German students who were resident in Britain maybe around 1937-1938.

Is this so?

And who were they?

Many thanks!

Bryan,
It would seem from my research, that the author of the Special Search
List (die Sonderfahndungsliste GB), which formed a supplement to
Informationsheft GB, was Walter Schellenberg (or so he claimed in his
memoirs). Schellenberg rose through the ranks to become Brigadefuehrer
(Brigadier General) and General of Police and Waffen SS. I have not
found any references to any other author. Is this information you were
already aware of? I didn't want to post this as an answer if you did
and you were seeking if anyone supplied the information to
Schellenberg. Hope this makes sense.

Hi, Answerfinder

Yes, Schellenberg took credit for it and he may well have 'placed the
order' but I seriously doubt that he actually compiled it.

Indeed, my source tells me that it was two German students and this
makes a lot of sense.

But, so far, I haven't got a fix on their names.

Sorry!

Bryan

I was hoping that Scriptor-ga or Politicalguru-ga would have started
jumping up and down to knock this one off.

Just a warning ... If I have to come to Berlin myself to get to the
bottom of this, I shall expect FREE hospitalty for the duration of my
stay.

Hi, I've ordered the book recommended by my good friend, Freddy, and I
shall now wait and see what the German academics have to say.

I pressed the Amazon Free Delivery button, so I am not expecting it to
arrive within the next ten minutes, but you never know.

Great idea to make contact with Reinhard Doerries again but I shall
first read the book.

All the Best to Everyone

Bryan, sorry I have been unable to confirm your information. Perhaps
another researcher may be more successful. In his memoirs, The
Labyrinth: Memoirs of Walter Schellenberg, Hitler's Chief of
Counterintelligence by Walter Schellenberg, he tells of his creation
of the guide, "I was ordered to prepare a small handbook for the
invading troops..." (more) (page 106)

In his book, The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich, William L. Shirer,
when discussing the author of the Special List, describes Schellenberg
as one of "Himmler?s bright young university graduates" (page 783/4)

Schellenberg rose through the ranks to become Brigadefuehrer
(Brigadier General) and General of Police and Waffen SS. He gave
evidence at Nuremberg and his full antecedents appear in an affidavit.

The Informationsheft GB and the Special List is available in paperback.

Extract from the review.
"...The first part, edited by senior Nazi Walter Schellenberg who had
been educated in England, is a detailed analysis of how the Germans
thought the country worked. The second, equally intriguing section is
a list of the men and women the Gestapo had earmarked for immediate
arrest. Written in August 1940, the handbook sheds extraordinary light
on the British political system, the establishment, the church,
industry, the police, trade unions and even the Boy Scouts..."

Hi, Freddy

Great links, again, Many Thanks

No I haven't got that Reinhard Doerries book ... I didn't even know it existed.

How do you manage to be so well informed?

Or did you find it in Switzerland?

At the Reichenbach Falls, maybe?

All the Best

Reinhard R. Doerries and Michael Wildt are doing some research on
Schellenberg. They may know (however, according to id=28368 you have
previously been in contact with Doerries).
