What company manufactures tissue paper in Canada? There should not be many companies doing this. The tissue paper I am referring to is the kind used for wrapping gifts (stuffing the boxes/shopping bags/gift bags that contain the gift). It is soft and comes in variety of colors, or sometimes with custom printed patterns. I need an actual manufacturer, not a wholesaler. |

Hi, cdsell69-ga, There "less than a handful" of companies in Canada that manufacture gift wrapping tissue paper, according to Custom Paper ( http://www.custompaper.ca/ ). There may be smaller manufacturers such as St. Armand ( http://www.aquarelle.ca/avril98/papermill.html ) who aren't part of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association. He told me they also buy from a company called Saites, however I couldn't confirm with that company as they are in a different time zone and are closed for the day. I am including their contact information for you anyway. The owner of Custom Paper told me that Saites does A1 acid-free tissue, but there are no manufacturers in Canada who produce coloured or printed gift wrap tissue paper. For his custom orders, he buys the paper from Norway or US distributors, and he also has the paper printed from US suppliers for custom orders as there are no Canadian companies that do the same work. He also suggested that quantity is an issue with getting the best deal -- smaller runs will be prohibitively expensive because the drums cost. ------------------------ - Gift Wrapping Tissue - ------------------------ J. Finding information on Nexfor (listed under Glassine in the CPPA pages) led to Fraser papers, who do not produce tissue paper. ------------------- - Search Strategy - ------------------- I first called distributors I know locally, asking for supplier or manufacturer information. Only one would give out the name of the manufacturer of the tissue paper (archival) that they sell. The others have internal policies restricting this information. The one who was more forthcoming gave me the start. From there, I followed the trail. Glassine paper is archival tissue paper. Searches for "tissue paper" were delivering predominantly toilet tissue, a false trail. After I found some manufacturing information, I contacted a local distributor (large-scale) to confirm. ----------------------------------------- - Google Search Terms & Resulting Pages - ----------------------------------------- st. armand tissue archival ( http://www.paintspot.ab.ca/Whats_New02.txt ) Glassine Paper manufacturer canada ( http://www.wlu.ca/~wwwgeog/special/vgt/English/can_mod2/unit9.htm ) Canadian Pulp and Paper Association (searched on site for "glassine") ( http://www.cppa.org/english-backup020107/cppa/products/allprod.htm ) canadian gift wrap tissue paper printing ( http://custompaper.ca/ ) (called them to confirm research) :) zerocattle-ga | |

Hello cdsell69-ga, I was attempting to research your question as well, so I thought I'd let you know what I found. Zerocattle-ga appears to be right. There is very little to be found for manufacturers of tissue paper in Canada. SEARCH STRATEGY: I used a slightly different approach and investigated the Canadian Trade Index ( http://www.nexport.com/index.htm ). They have an index that can be searched by company name and product description. You are asked to register (which is free) to use this feature. This index provides company name and contact information, as well as links to their web site if available. Searching the Canadian Trade Index with the keywords "tissue paper" brings up only one match, for the Montreal Paper Company. You can do a more general search with just "paper" but you will get about 200 matches, some of which may quite possibly manufacture the type of paper you are looking for. I didn't find any, but I very well could have missed something. It may be worth you time to contact some of the specialty paper manufacturers directly, because several of them do not have websites or complete product lines available on-line. I followed the hyperlink to MPC inc. ( http://www.mpcpaper.com ) and verified that they do manufacture the type of tissue paper to which you referred. To do so from the homepage: 1)select preferred language (English or French) 2)select "Packaging Division" from the left-hand sidebar 3)Scroll to the bottom of the page where product categories are listed and select "Misc" (for miscellaneous). 4)this will bring up a picture and description of what they call "Cap Paper." Hello again, My sincere apologies. I did not mean to post that comment so soon. One correction: The final web address should, of course, read: http://www.mpcpaper.com Also, you may directly access the page regarding "Cap Paper" by following this hyperlink: http://www.mpcpaper.com/html/misc.html I hope this information is helpful. I have searched Walden's ABC Guide to the paper industry which was first published in 1885 and have not been able to confirm a Canadian manufacturer of wrapping tissue. You must search under both manufacturer (includes paper mills) and convertor (includes manufacturers who buy paper and print it or cut it from very large rolls into small rolls) There are two other sources that I will pursue on your behalf tomorrow by phone. These are: Canadian Paper Trade Association 111 Peters Street, Suite 527 Toronto Ontario Canada M5V 2H1 Tel: 416 971-7800 Fax: 416 971-5411 Contact: Don Mockford Often trade groups will have resources that are not readily available online. Mayer Packaging 204 774 1651 There was a listing for this company on one of the distributor sites as a possible vendor. I'll publish to the results of these two contacts sometime tomorrow. seedy |

I tried searching for "tissue paper" (Canada OR Canadian)(Manufacturer OR Manufacturing) and found the custompaper.ca link as well as a sponsored link to http://www.directory.bellzinc.ca/bellzinc/english/queries/c_mfglist.asp?stype=114856&sFrom=wandtypes&SearchLanguage=1 a link to Canadian tissue paper manufacturers. The 2nd link http://www.emballagetout.ca/ manufacturers over 50 colors of tissue paper that can be personalized as well. |

thanks for the response. I will check out the links you have sent. The problem with http://www.emballagetout.ca/ - a company we know very well, is basically that they lie. They do not manufacture tissue paper. They have a manufacturer do what they say, inluding custom-producing tissue paper (they are able to do this since they need tons of tissue paper) and the manufacturer sells it to them. Then they go out calling themselves manufacturers. The unforunate truth is that they are not alone in this misleading practice. I will check out he links you gave me, but as far as I know there is maybe 5% chance that the number of tisue paper manufacturers in Canada is greater than 2. thanks, Eyal |

What a wonderful comment by mydogrex. The website of the L'emballage Tout Inc. does indicate they "convert" papers in Canada. Calling Mayer Packaging in Winnepeg at 204 774 1651 resulted in more information about their company. They manufacture recycled white wrapping tissue in Canada adn also have colored recycled content tissue available. They "convert" this colored tissue in Canada bring it in big rolls from Europe cutting it into small rolls or sheets in Canada. They also have gift wrap available that has been "converted" in Canada which may include printed in Canada. The association website http://www.fpac.ca/english/cppa/members/allmem.htm respresents all members of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association which location was detailed in my previous comment. We hope you are able to find the sourcing you require from the infomation provided in the answer and comments provided by answers.google.com. Thank you for your interesting question. seedy |

About Emballage Tout: While their website may indicate they "convert" papers in Canada, one wonders what their defenition of "we" is. (When referring to themselves). The bottom line is we know for a fact that their tissue paper originates somewhere else. P.S. why is my name cdsell69-ga? =) what does ga stand for ? |
