Hi,

I'm a beginning artist, just starting to get my work out there and
show in galleries since fall of last year. I have several galleries
that are interested in showing my work and I need to come up with
prices for my pieces. I don't want to undersell myself, but I also do
not want to price to highly. My work is photographic, abstract, and
most often printed as archival inkjet prints (on water
color type paper). The work will be matted and framed using nice
quality archival materials. So, for instance, what should I charge
for an 11" x 14" photograph, matted and framed in a 16" x 20" gallery
quality wood frame (the TOTAL price, including gallery's take)? How about
for a 16" x 20" photograph...etc?

It's really impossible to give advice on pricing something as
subjective as art without having even seen the product.

I suggest that you get yourself noticed.

Perhaps a write up in your local rag?

Try to get the punters to come to you and then you can test the waters yourself.

As a strategy, it's not a bad idea to start with a high peice tag
because you can always come down and we are all suckers for the
Reduced stickers, etc.

Price is just one component of your marketing effort and always
remember 'Word of Mouth' is the best and cheapest form of advertising.
Get people to talk about you in very positive terms. Not 'What a
nerve!'

You need to think about the whole subject.

Hope you become famous ...

And if you do please remember me.

Good Luck!
