Hello, meemsi-ga!

For an overview of the more than 200 different types of high schools
in Manhattan, you might first want to read the following page from
Insideschools.org:

High Schools:
http://www.insideschools.org/st/ST_programs2.php

You mentioned alternative high schools. This if often a term used for
students who have difficulty in regular schools, either due to
discipline problems or academic performance. Therefore, I am not sure
if you actually mean alternative schools, or schools that simply have
an "alternative" emphasis on the performing arts.

Either way, it is probably best if you look through the various
schools on the site yourself, rather than my selecting a few for you
to review. That way, you can read the descriptions thoroughly and
select the schools that are of most interest to you. It is possible
you might even want to look outside of Manhattan. (On each school
description page, you might want to make note of the percentage of
ninth-graders who read at grade level. This is a good indication of a
school for those who have academic problems in a regular setting.)

To perform a search of high schools in Manhattan, by type, go to:
http://www.insideschools.org/fs/high_search.php

* Note that the alternative schools do not necessarily have a
performing arts emphasis.

* You can search in Manhattan or any other borough by "alternative", "art
focus", "selective programs", "vocational schools," etc.

* Also, those schools with an arts focus do not necessarily have
  a "performing" arts specialty.

* Most pages have a link to the school website where you can find out more
  in-depth information.

Hello again, meemsi!

I understand your desire for an alternative learning program coupled
with performing arts. Unfortunately, there is no definitive category
that encompasses both. Since the site I led you to has links to every
high school and alternative program in the Manhattan (and New York
City area) you will have to look at each one until you find something
that matches your criteria. Here are three programs I have culled out
of the Alternative School list that offer performing arts:

H.S. 685 Bread & Roses Integrated Arts High School
6 Edgecombe Avenue NEW YORK, NY 10030
Phone: (212) 926-4152 | Fax: (212) 926-4317
http://www.insideschools.org/fs/school_profile.php?id=976

"The school seeks to combine academic rigor with an emphasis on the
arts, and accomplishes this by employing a variety of teaching
methods.....In partnership with the ACORN community association, Bread
and Roses offers a variety of after school programs, including drama."

H.S. 531 New York City Public School Repertory
123 West 43 Street NEW YORK, NY 10036
Phone: (212) 382-1875 | Fax: (212) 382-2306 Principal: Michael Mehmet, IA
http://www.insideschools.org/fs/school_profile.php?id=987

"Upstairs from Town Hall, in the heart of Broadway's theater
district, the Public School Repertory Company provides a small school
setting for artistic kids. Some kids who floundered at large,
impersonal city schools find a home here. Students learn singing,
acting, and dancing as well as playwriting in a nurturing
environment."

H.S. 419 Landmark High School
220 West 58th Street NEW YORK, NY 10019
Phone: (212) 247-3414 | Fax: (212) 247-3602 Principal: Vivian Orlen, IA
http://www.insideschools.org/fs/school_profile.php?id=978

This school has a small, beginning music and jazz program funded by
Bette Midler, and offers dance classes (although the link was broken
on the website)

Agai, however, I suggest you look through the schools in each
category, since only you can determine what combination of learning
styles and art programs fit your unique needs.
