Hello,

I am a research assistant at Arizona State University, and am trying
to locate the source of a quote that says something to the effect of
"we are hypnotized by literacy." I know it is assoicated with Harlem
Renaissance writer Jean Toomer, but I don't think he actually said it.

Also, I have previously located that Dorothy West is recorded as
having written in a letter to a friend that Jean Toomer was hypnotized
by literature; I am looking for the quote that specifically says "we
are hypnotized by literacy."

Any ideas? Anything would be much appreciated!
