Are you sure about the artist´s name ? I found out that there´s a
company called "Kunstanstalt Beyer in Dresden" who seem to make prints
of paintings. So the signature you´ve found may be the one of the
manufacturer of the copy, not the artist.
I couldn´t find anything neither online nor in my offline ressources
(Britannica, Brockhaus) so I doubt that "Beyer in Dresden" is the
artists name.
I´m rather sure that this is true, because there´s a picture of
Rembrand called
"The wedding of Samson". Look at:
Is that the picture you have ? Then you certainly have a copy.

The painting I have I acquired from the then University Club of
Evanston (Illinois). It was presented to the University club in 1950.
It is a copy of the painting you indicated. Was the Company you
mentioned in business in the 19th century and did they commision an
artist to paint such a copy. Some how I feel there is more to this
painting because of my limited knowledge of it and its condidtion.

also Rembrandt's name is on the painting. the plaque that came with
the painting states THE WEDDING OF SAMSON by Beyer in Dresden Could
Beyer be the founder of such a ccompany and painted this before the
company was formed?

Jimbo,

Here is another possibility for the painting’s derivation.

If this was painted in the 19th century, as you indicate, it's likely
that the artist was Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Beyer, a German who
painted in the latter part of the 18th century and the early years of
the 19th. The Grove Dictionary of Art (online edition, edited by Laura
Macy, http://www.groveart.com, subscription required) has an article
about Beyer.

Beyer, Christian Friedrich Wilhelm
(b Gotha, 27 Dec 1725; d Vienna, 23 March 1806).

Beyer was a “German sculptor, painter and architect. He was the son of
a court gardener who worked first in Gotha and then in Wrttemberg.”
He studied in Paris, Rome, and later in Stuttgart.

“In Stuttgart Beyer made an important contribution to the founding and
improvement of facilities for the training of artists, notably at the
Akademie, and to manufacture in the field of arts and crafts,
particularly at the Ludwigsburg porcelain manufactory.”

In 1767 Beyer moved to Vienna. “Of a total of 40 marble statues he
personally sculpted 18; the rest were made under his supervision.”

Below is an excerpt from the article on Rembrandt from the same Grove
Art Encyclopedia, which mentions Rembrandt's Wedding of Samson:

"Also painted in the same year was the Wedding of Samson (1638;
Dresden, Gemldegal. Alte Meister; Br. 507)."

So I'm assuming that Beyer may have duplicated Rembrandt's "Wedding of
Samson" which was painted by Rembrandt in Dresden. I'm assuming that
the painting you have was not necessarily painted in Dresden.

But then again, Till-GA’s findings seem plausible as well. Good luck!

I am now in position to donate this painting to a charity. How do I
go about finding such a charity and who can, if possible, place a
value on it. Any ideas Till.ga or Prof.ga?
