I need several different and detailed estimates of how many small and
medium sized enterprises there are in UAE.
The first question is of course how we define small and medium
enterprises. There could be several definitions, e.g. Number of
employees less than 50, or Turnover less than AED 50m, or Equity of
less than AED 1m or any other.
Since different organisations/agencies/reports will define it in
different manners, I would accept the different definitions. But what
I need clearly is -
1. Source of information (goes without saying it has to be a reliable
source e.g. Dubai Chambers of Commerce and Industy is acceptable, my
brother told me is generally not acceptable unless a scientific study
was done)
2. What is the exact definition used
3. How many total SMEs there are in UAE today (or in the recent past)
4. How many of them are active e.g. there could be some trade licenses
that are issued by the regulator, although the business is not being
run
5. What is the split of these active companies by sector e.g. 1000
Used car dealers, 2000 food and beverage manufacturers, 6000
retailers and so on.
6. Any further information like their size, "bankability", years in
business etc. would be great!
I need this set of information from as many sources/estimates as
possible. Atleast 3 would be required.
Feel free to ask any questions.
