Hi, I'm planning a party on the 3rd of September for my 21st
birthday. I did have the perfect venue, but it was cancelled at the
last minute as the owners basically decided they didn't like us and
came up with rather pathetic excuses to stop us having it. So I now
need a new venue.

The party is for about 100-120 people both standing and sitting
(though not a sit-down meal) and would idealy be from 7:30pm until
about 2am. We're students, and can't really afford to buy drinks in
bars, so somewhere we can simply bring our own alcohol would be best.
Facilities for cooking would also be a bonus. I'd be prepared (infact
would prefer) to provide everything myself than to get it from the
venue owners. Ie, drinks (as stated earlier), food, glasses, lights,
music even cusions. A fitted dance floor might be better, though i
wouldn't mind renting one myself for the night (so long as the venue
owners didn't mind)

In fact, all that's really needed is an empty space and permission to
turn it into a party venue for the night. As for price, i think £200
- £300 would be the soft upper-limit, though I accept I may not be
able to get anything at this price (the original venue was £15 an
hour, so very cheap).

Now, invitations have already gone out, with the original address on
them, so my two options are to find somewhere near 1 Chelsea Manor St.
(London SW3 5RP) which i can lead people to via signs/balloons, or to
send new invitations, in which cas i could move the party to
practically anywhere withing tube zone 1. Only if the difference in
price/suitability is enough to justify the additional cost of new
invitations, then will this be an option.

The mood is, of course, an important consideration. People will be
aged, 18-32 ish, though mostly 19-22. There is a colour code dress
code (like a traffic light party, but with more colours, ie, pink =
kinky, orange = quirky etc. mix and match them as to how you want to
express yourself on the night etc etc..) and to reinforce this, i'd
like to get hold of some coloured lights, serve coloured cocktails,
etc, etc.

Other things i'd planned, just putting here so you get the full
picture of what i was hoping to achieve:

Music will be via a pc/jukebox with my cd collection loaded onto it as
mp3s (this is legal, isn't it?) so people can add their own choices to
the playlist. We were also planning on serving food around 10pm and
then again at 1am.

Suitable places might include:

smaller rooms in a town hall (though they may be unwilling to let us
stay late, and may insist on us using their caterers, for example)

perhapse a large appartment of some sort? can you rent these for the night?

small halls that are used for other things, and thus don't price
themselves at the london party market, which is incredibly expensive.

maybe you'll have some better ideas.

Anyway, i'd like to get this sorted fairly quickly, hence the
(slightly more than i can afford : ) price for this question.

I'll be back at a computer tomorrow morning (9:30 GMT) so i'll answer
any clarification questions you might have then, though i hope i've
already covered everything.

I sure hope this works, thankyou so much in advance to whoever answers this!

ok, i realise this is a fairly open, sprawling, difficult question in
it's current form, so i would like to simplify it to:

Are there any places in london (tube zone 1) where i can rent for a
single night a large, empty room capable of holding 120 people
comfortably, in which there are no regulations against: consumption of
alcohol, dancing, and loud music? And how much would such a place
cost?

I would like a list of possible places, containing the following
information: size (floor space) of the room. Location. Telephone
number. Any additional information you find relevant.
