The Blue Suit Mom provides the following tips to narrow the appearance
of your shoulders:

?Avoid heavy or stiff fabrics at the shoulders

Avoid tops that have shoulder seams that drop onto the upper arm area
(off-the-shoulder seams or styles). This seamed look is often found in
ultra casual garments, such as sweatshirts, etc.

Avoid tight turtlenecks and high necked garments that emphasize the shoulder line

Avoid boat-neck designs and tops or dresses with strong horizontal
lines across the shoulders or neck area, including set-in yolks on
blouses or dresses.

Avoid gathers at the shoulder line

Wear ?Ragland? sleeves (with Ragland sleeves there are no shoulder
seams; the sleeve and neck are usually cut as one piece of fabric;
sometimes there is a diagonal or vertical seam line that hits several
inches inward from your actual shoulder bone.

Wear tops with inset sleeves, where the seam line of the sleeve comes
just to the mere edge of your shoulder bone or right on it.

Fashion pins, worn on one side of the garment or lapel, draw eyes away
from the shoulder line.

Use vertical lines with center interest, such as buttons, chains, scarves, etc.

Choose narrow lapels, versus the wide or extra-wide lapels, on jackets
and blouses.?

To minimize wide shoulders wear:

- raglan sleeves
- no dropped shoulders
- no shoulder pads
- no extra detail at shoulder level

To minimize the bust and shoulders and emphasize the hips.

Do:
?Add details such as pockets, patterning, and textural fabrics to the
lower half of garments to balance out your appearance.
Choose styles with drop waists, peplums, and pockets.
Use raglan sleeves and V-necklines to draw the eye downward.
Balance out your figure with full skirts.
Draw attention down and away from bust and shoulders with border prints.?

Don?t:
?Use yokes or pattern details that call attention to the shoulders or bust.
Place pockets on bodice?they?ll make your upper half appear wider.
Add details such as ruffles to necklines?instead, keep them simple.
Layer pieces?it adds bulk where you don?t need it.
Choose styles with wide lapels or shoulder details.
Wear Capri pants, miniskirts, and narrow silhouettes?they?ll make you
look more top heavy.?

Tips:

?Low necklines, V-necks, and shawl collars slim and lengthen, drawing
the eye downward?a plus for broad shoulders.?

Do not wear turtlenecks

?Turtlenecks, high necklines, and rolled collars carry the eye upward,
shortening the neck and causing the shoulders to appear wider. They
can also make a broad upper body seem boxy.?

Sleeves
?Puffed sleeves disguise sloping shoulders and make shoulders appear broader.
Full sleeves add width to the overall silhouette.
Raglan and kimono sleeves draw the eye down to the lower body,
diverting attention away from the shoulders and bust.
Bell sleeves add width to the lower body, making the top half appear
slimmer. They also draw attention to the hips.?

?No curves: Feminize a boyish figure with bias cuts and diagonal patterns.?

If you have a slightly wider shoulders and larger bustline with narrow
hips and legs.

?Main goal: create a visual balance between your wide upper body and
narrow lower body.

- Wear fuller bottoms in prints, bright colors, and flared or pleated skirts.
- Wear darker, less embellished tops to minimize the wide upper body.
- Choose heavier, chunky shoes and keep accessories close to the face.
- Avoid shoulder pads or wear only small ones.?

?With your shoulders and bust wider than your hips, you need to build
up the bottom and minimize the top. Wear medium to high-cut legs. Put
more color and prints on the bottom. Also, look for suits with wide
straps. Square necks help to narrow broad shoulders. Do not wear
plunging neck lines or mini bottoms.?

?Prints around the neck and over the shoulder can make your shoulders
appear wider.
Do not wear blouses with fancy details and ruffles.?

Broad Shoulders:

Wide necklines, short sleeves and light fabrics help to visually
reduce broad shoulders

Top heavy, narrower hips and thighs
?Do not wear horizontal stripes! Keep tops and shirts sleek and
fitted, with V necklines good, chunky knits bad!?

Long Legs

If your legs are longer than average, but you would like to blend in
rather than tower above everyone;

?Avoid clothes with vertical lines as this elongates you.
Low-waisted, boot-cut or straight leg trousers are great for long legs.
Opt for low kitten heels rather than flats.
three-quarter length trousers as these make the leg appear shorter.

To appear shorter:

?A dark top worn with lighter bottoms shortens you only in that it
brings the attention to the lower half of your body. The eye always
goes to the lightest area; the lightest colored part of anything
stands out above and beyond the dark tones. It also places the
emphasis upon the hip line, making it appear wider and larger. Do you
want your lower half emphasized over and above all of your other
features? Another pertinent drawback to wearing a dark top with
lighter bottoms is this: the dark top (dark color worn on the top
only) minimizes your bust line, which in turn can distort your overall
proportion. For example, if you are small busted, you appear even more
so, and your hips appear even larger. Wear this look only if you have
a generous bosom and if you have small or narrow hips.?

More tips:

?You should choose separates and in particular pick tops that are long
in length (below the waist) and cover the tops of your legs. These
will give the appearance that you legs are shorter than they actually
are. Select trousers that have a cuffed appearance round the bottom;
this will make the actual length of the trousers seem much shorter.
Capri and three-quarter length trousers a can be worn but make sure
they fit in the right places on your legs so that you don't look like
they are too short for you.?

To appear shorter, jackets or tops should fall below the hips.

Butt

If your bum is small and pert you probably happy with showing it off,
but if you feel its non-existent then;

?Wear an a-line skirt as they make small bottoms appear larger.
Wear lighter colours on the bottom to accentuate the bum area.
Avoid tight, straight-legged trousers which emphasize the lack of bum
Wear trousers with side pockets as these will make you look wider.?

http://www.itv.com/page.asp?partid=859

Jeans

?Round out your shape in pocket less, light-colored denim. A
sweetheart waist-band also adds curves.?

?For a casual look such as jeans and a top, be sure to choose
hip-huggers that emphasize the curves of your hips. There's absolutely
no need to wear padded underpants, all you need is a waistline that
hugs the widest part of your hips, and a few strategic pockets. Side
pockets visually widen your hips, and surprisingly, the lack of
pockets at the back makes your butt look rounder and bigger. So take
note of these when you buy jeans or pants.?

Pleats add pounds. If you want to look larger through the hips, wear
pleats. If you don't, avoid pleats!
