i'm looking to be able to print out an English version of a Czech
children's story. i think
the author is Jan
Karafiat and the title "The little Beetles." ("Broueci," i think, in
czech.) i have a magnetic puppet set with the characters -- several
different insects -- and was told that there was a story that inspired
it.

Hello suebee40-ga,

From what I can gather the title of the book is "Broucci, pro mali i
velke deti" (GLOW WORMS FOR CHILDREN BIG & SMALL) and it is about
Fireflies.

This states "Illustration from 'Broucci' (Czech for 'Little Bug') by Jan Karafiat"
http://www.pacpubserver.com/new/news/6-30-99/firefly.html

Is this the book you're looking for? I have not located an english
version, but I'd like to clarify we have the correct book.

don't know for sure. i think it was from 1876.

Hello again suebee40-ga,

Then that is the correct book in my clarification, as it was done in
1876. Now, the trick is finding an english printable version. It seems
to only exist in Czech as far as I can tell, and in hard copy. Nothing
I have found will allow you to print off a copy. I'm sure that
copyright is held on this book, as it seems to be a Czech classic and
collectors item, and therefore that's why you can not find a pritable
version in any language.

I have located some Czech versions of the book for sale however, and
I'm sure you could find a bi-lingual person or student in your area to
translate it for you. Would that be an acceptable answer, if I found
you the book and a translator. I would need to know where you are
located so that I could find a translator in your area.

I am interested in answering your question, but I believe that to
answer it well, your question will require more time and effort than
the average amount of time and effort associated with this price. Here
is a link to guidelines about pricing your question,
https://answers.google.com/answers/pricing.html

If you both raise your price and also post a clarification here, the
system will notify me and I will be more than willing to not only
locate a Czech copy of the book, but to find you a translator as well.

Hello again,

Well, Let me take my foot out of my mouth. The commentor Fp-ga proved
me wrong on the translation department. Therefore, let's tackle this
from there now that I feel silly and am blushing.

I still could not find a copy of her translation available for
download so that you can print it, but for $23.28 USD you can order it
and have your own copy. Now that I feel horribly silly....would this
work for you?

I would also like to point out that the translated version has
different illustrations that the original version by Karafiat.
Depending on how original you want the source, maybe having the Czech
copy for to match your magnetic set with, and the translated version
so that you could read it would be benificial to you?
