Hello. President Lincoln was carrying a $5 Confederate note when he was shot and killed. From the Library of Congress: "There is nothing unusual about some of the things Lincoln carried with him: two pairs of eyeglasses, a lens polisher, a pocketknife, a linen handkerchief, a watch fob and a brown leather wallet. But in the wallet was a $5 Confederate note and nine newspaper clippings." http://www.loc.gov/wiseguide/apr03/pockets.html Also see: Americaslibrary.gov: http://www.americaslibrary.gov/cgi-bin/page.cgi/aa/presidents/lincoln/pocket_2 http://www.americaslibrary.gov/cgi-bin/page.cgi/aa/presidents/lincoln/pocket_1 ----- search strategy: lincoln "a wallet" "ford's theatre lincoln "$5 confederate note" Thanks! |
