The US department of Justice is a large entity. I thought the FBI was part of the DoJ. What are the Office of Inspector General (OIG) reporting relationships in the US Justice Dept? Is the OIG independent of the department it scrutinizes, like Congress's GAO? Where does the Attorney General (AG) and the FBI Director fit on the DoJ org chart? Who is considered more senior among the three? |

http://www.usdoj.gov/dojorg.htm The Attorney General is the most senior. The FBI is on the same level as the OIG. Therefore, the OIG can inspect the FBI, but if the Attorney General is accused of wrong, then that's the job of an independent counsel. http://www.house.gov/judiciary/98-283.pdf |
