Hi chelle1964,

The main difference between weaving yarns and knitting yarns is how
much the fibers are twisted in the yarn. Weaving yarns have more
twist than knitting yarns. More twist makes a yarn stronger, less
elastic, smoother, and less soft.

Whether yarn can be felted has more to do with the kind of fibers of
which it is composed than how twisted it is. If it's wool, it can
probably be felted; otherwise, felting would be difficult, but not
necessarily impossible.

The Brittanica Concise Encyclopedia Online has an article on yarn.

I also consulted a sewing expert for this answer.

If you need any further information, please ask for a clarification.
