Hi buscuit,

Yes, it should be possible connect an Epson Stylus Photo 820 printer
that is connected to a Macintosh PowerPC G3 running on system 8.6. The
specs of the machine, (Mac Power PC G3, 266 MHz 512 cache 32MB 4GB
HD/24xCD Manufactured Sept 1998, serial # SG8345S1D8X with 352 MB
running OS8.6), suggests that there is no USB port. However it should
have a PCI slot. A PCI slot is a bay designed for computer expansion.
This allows for computer users to adapt their computers for a variety
of uses. You will find the PCI slot(s) in the back of your Macintosh.
Before you can use the Epson printer you will need to install a USB
port-PCI card to give your Mac USB functionality. This is a basic
procedure, but you may wish to have a technician install it for you.

You will need a card, such as this:
http://www.ramelectronics.net/catalogbyProdID.asp?prodid=KW-580C

Once the card has been installed, then you'll need to download the
printer driver from the Epson website.

To do this, go to:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=14409&prodoid=22966687&infoType=Downloads&platform=Macintosh

and click on [ "Printer Driver v7.2aA" ].

Then, click on [ "Download Now" ]

The file [ "epson10524.sea.hqx" ] which is 9.4MB, will then begin to
download automatically.
(You may be asked to enter am email address before the download begins.)

When you have downloaded the file [ "epson10524.sea.hqx" ], and it has
been unstuffed, then click on the file [ "epson10524.sea" ].

When it opens you will see the folowing message:

"This installer will place a folder on the Desktop labeled, "epson10525".
Open the folder and run the installer. View the "README" file for more details."

Click [ "Continue' ].

Software Installation:

1. Turn on you printer.

2. On the desktop, open the [ epson10525 ] folder.

3. Double-click the Installer icon [ SP820 Software Installer]

4. When you see the initial screen, click [ Continue ] .

5. The dialog box that appears allows you to install software:

- Easy install. Select this option to install all the software
necessary, including the Epson Stylus Photo 820 drivers, Epson
Monitor3 and ColorSync printer profiles.

6. Click Install to copy the selected software to your hard disk.

7. When the installation is complete, click Restart to exit the
installer and restart your Macintosh

8. Select CHOOSER from the Apple Menu and select one of the EPSON driver icons.

- If you select the SP820 Series icon, you need to confirm the USB
port to which you connected the printer. Make sure the printer is on
and the interface cable is connected to one of the ports.

If you want to use the EPSON Monitor3, turn on "background prnting".
(EPSON Monitor3 reserves approximately half the unused memory as its
working memory.)

9. Close the Chooser. When you see the reminder message to change the
printer settings in your application, click OK.

This completes the installation and selection of the EPSON Stylus Photo 820 driver.

I hope that works!
