Hello Buscuit,
The simplest method is to connect the two systems using the built in
Ethernet adapters on both systems. I would do something like this:
Ethernet Hub (or switch)
| |
G3 iMac
where you use a small (4 ports is plenty) hub or switch to connect the
two systems. You will also need:
- two straight through Ethernet cables (Cat 5 or better) to connect
the G3 and the iMac to the hub
- both machines (and hub) close enough togther to be connected
You MAY need a AUI adapter but only if your ethernet adapter is REALLY
old. Make a clarification request if this is the case - I can suggest
some suppliers.
On both machines, turn on Appletalk. For the older one, there is a
good explanation at
http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/mac/classicnw/classic_networking.html
which walks through the steps. The network control panel on OS X has a
similar set up for Appletalk as well.
Once this is up you can turn on file sharing on both systems and use
the chooser to get files between the machines. That should provide the
basic network sharing between the two systems.
