Hey Flybri,

Eric B and Rakim sampled Israeli singer Ofra Haza for that song.

Amazon

"This is my most favorite single ever, this remix even outshines the
original version which you would think is impossible. "Paid In Full"
(seven minutes of madness) is a breathtaking track which has a awe
inspiring sample of Ofra Haza's beautiful voice wailing over the "Paid
In Full" beat."

Google search term: Eric B & Rakim paid in full sample

Elvis Pelvis
http://elvispelvis.com/ofrahaza.htm
"But it was not until 1988, when American rap artists Eric B. and
Rakim sampled ``Im Ninalu'' on their dance hit ``Paid in Full,'' that
Haza became an international phenomenon."

MTV
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1429988/20000224/story.jhtml
"Haza was sampled by Eric B and Rakim on 1987's "Paid In Full," a
portion of which M.A.R.R.S. used for "Pump Up The Volume."

According to a thread on Usenet, archived on google groups, I found

"i can confirm that Coldcut, used the bassline
from Denis Edwards/Siedah Garret track 'Dont Look Any Further'

Ofra Haza provided the wailing egyptian vocal on their mix of paid in full"

Google Groups seach terms: "paid in full" all samples

I also found confirmation of this from another archived post on usenet.

I am still trying to find any source of the flute used in this song.

Howdy Mother!

The 'Don't Look Any Further' sample is VERY close, but that bassline
sounds like a synth, whereas in 'Paid In Full' it sounds like an
electric bass. Maybe EB & R hired a session muzo 2 play the riff??? If
U can find the flute source, I'd really appreciate it - I have heard
the song once before and found it 2 be quite funky...

Thanks.

I have searched everywhere I can, and I find nothing about the flute
sample, its source, not even a hint of where they might have heard it.
Everyone mentions it, no one has a source.

I can add in that the drums are from Ashley's Roachclip, but thats all
i've found for samples from this song.

Thanks Mother911.

I didn't get all the details I was looking 4, but it would appear that
U have searched fairly extensively - much more so than I might have
bothered by myself.

Here are many of the samples used in "Paid In Full":

http://the-breaks.com/ is the perfect source for rao sample
questions. If the flute source isn't listed under above link,
ask for it in the forums (http://the-breaks.com/forums/).

For similar music research questions you can also consult
the bigger databases (they mainly contain cover versions, but
also samples):

Thanks Gnothi.

Turns out the flute sample is also from Ashley's Roachclip.

QUOTE:"Eric B and Rakim sampled Israeli singer Ofra Haza for that song."

The sample from "Im Nin Alu" was actually added and used in the
Coldcut remix and so was not sampled by Eric B & Rakim.
(just to clarify).
