Is thx1138-ga just one researcher, probably living in a cave in Mexico?

Or is it a metaphor for a huge team working out of MIT?

Hi probonopublico and thanks for your question.
I feel I can answer this question from personal knowledge :)

Infact THX1138 is an Englishman living in Brazil and not Mexico. None
of the claims that his residency in Brazil are as a result of evading
Her Majestyīs Government are true, and no charges were ever
successfully brought against him regarding that inquiry. The
investigation at a certain building at Vauxhall Cross, Central London
was just a 'misunderstanding' However in order to be more discreet he
thought it best to take an 'extended holiday' (which has already
extended to several years ;)

True Story:
When I first arrived in Brazil I was looking for a boat to hire and
was introduced by a friend to a man who had several boats that he
could lend me. On enquiring about the boats he told me that one of
them had been owned by the conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic
Orchestra who was a Jew. During the war it got confiscated by the
Naziīs (along with everything else he owned) and towards the end of
the war 3 or 4 Naziīs thought they had better not wait for the outcome
and sailed it across the atlantic and landed it on a private beach in
Rio which was owned by the family of the friend. The Naziīs
disappeared into the jungle and the family inherited rather a nice
boat. Who the Naziīs were I havenīt been able to find out, and the
boat is now rotten and not sea worthy, but itīs an interesting story.
I have seen several hints that there were/are Naziīs here. Only last
Sunday I went to an antique/junk market here in Rio and saw an ss
dagger and a badge which I couldnīt identify, and a Nazi party members
book (it was like an annual with pictures of blonde haired blue eyed
youths doing sporty things)from I think it was 1939, a bit scarry
really!

As for the name THX1138:
THX1138 is the name of George Lucasīs first feature film which was
released in 1970 and I rather like the film so I chose it as my
username. Intersestingly, in Star Wars and other George Lucas films,
there are sublime references to THX1138.
"The licence plate number on Milner's deuce coupe in American Graffiti
was THX 138"
"In Star Wars, Luke says "Prisoner transfer from cell block 1138."
and there are others.......here:

Thanks for the question, and I hope this has given you a bit of
insight into THX1138.

All the best

WOW! Got more than I bargained for. Obrigado.

Next time that I'm on Copacabana I'll look out for a dissipated
ex-pat.

As regards DVD players, I understand that most of them can be fixed to
make them multi-region and some retailers here in the UK (eg Richer
Sounds) will do it, if asked.

Tell me, do they still play football in Brazil?

OBRIGADO to Missy, aussi.

Regards

Bryan

Thanks for the trivia on the
THX 1138, uh thx1138-ga hehe.

This was the most interesting faq:
Star Wars was, at one point, going to be a prequel to THX, with the
character who would become Luke Skywalker conceived as a young THX.

I love that movie, anyone know
where to find it on DVD?

AI,

A "Region 0" DVD is sometimes available on Ebay and similar sites, but
I cannot vouch for its quality (or, for that matter, its legality.)

Those of us who are eager to see this great film released in a special
edition with all the trimmin's are probably going to be out of luck
for a while. This fan site suggests writing to George Lucas about it:

I suspect that George has heard quite a lot on this subject, and will
make his decision based on criteria unrelated to audience demand.

I have it on pretty good authority that our Brazillian droid friend is
actually elusive spy Kurt Jahnke, masquerading as a beach bum in sunny
Rio.

Don't let the cover of "innocent British expat" fool you...he doesn't
sport that accent for no reason!

*wink*

To back missy up, I remember reading something about that in a CIA report once.
