I want to change the oil in my 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup, but the owner's manual conveniently fails to show where the oil drain plug is under the truck. I found the oil filter, but before I start unplugging things I want to make sure I have the right plug. I need a picture, I guess, with an arrow pointing to the correct plug. can you help? |

Hi Deputy Dawg, I found a nice picture of the 2002 vortec 4300 which should be very similar to your engine in your Silverado. I believe the 4800 was the standard for 2000. I found this image of a 4800 http://www.motorsportscenter.com/uploads/4_8l_v8_with_electronic_throttle.jpg and this one of the 4300 http://www.uploadyourimages.com/viewer.php?pix=847124oilpan.jpg I added the arrow to the second one showing a drain plug on the side of the oil pan under the oil filter. I am thinking based on the image of the 4800 that your drain plug will be on the other side. Same basic location, just on the right side of the car instead of the left. If your Silverado has a skid plate, there will be holes on either side of the oil pan to allow access to the drain plug. If you need any further clarification on this question please request clarification prior to rating this answer. Thanks, Mother911-ga |
