Question ID: 382926
I have been to Radio Shack, Best Buys. . . . . looking for a radio for
my office that will receive AM. I finally ?get it? that there is no
piece of radio hardware that will receive in the middle of this
high-rise, concrete building without mondo-static.

I have heard about satellite radio but think that this is line-of site
and will not penetrate this building. I know that many radio stations
live-stream their local programming but some sort of licensing
prevents them from streaming many other talk radio programs that are
not local. This has proved to be quite unsatisfactory because there
seems to be no organized way to find out who is streamed on what
station in what time frame.

It seems to me that there should be some sort of Internet subscriber
radio services that live stream or archive stream . . . . say, Tony
Snow. I have tried all the ways I can think of to query this issue
but. . . I really don?t understand what comes up.

This question will be answered by helping me to find out if there is
any way to receive AM radio programming in this concrete building , ,
or. . by pointing me towards high-speed Internet Radio services that
offer a variety of programming besides music . . . or any other things
I have not thought about . . . or. . . just helping me to understand
that in this day, with this technology ? there is simply no way to get
this done. Thanx Guys

PS - love any comments. . . who does live stream Tony Snow :) ?

Hello Schmooz

Tony Snow's program is streamed on the internet at:
http://www.pirateradio1250.com or http://www.kgez.com

He also has a website at: http://www.foxnews.com/tonysnow which you
can contact for further details.

If you are looking for other streaming radio shows this place is a
good place to start:

http://www.warpradio.com

This site classifies the stations by their type.

With regards to your AM reception problem I am not an expert in this
area but I believe the only real solution is to have an external
aerial attached to your radio.

If this is sufficient for an answer please let me know and I will post
it officially below.

Of course an external aerial is the first thing I tried. . actually
several of them. .but, as I said, I work in the center of a high-rise
concrete office building and there is no way to get to the outside of
the building with an antenna or aerial. I went to that warparadio site
and no specifics are listed.

While I appreciate your comments, I would like to request that you
leave this question open so that perhaps a researcher who my be
familiar with some high speed Internet radio subscriber services might
pick it up. I still do not know if there is any sort of satelite
radio service that works in a concrete office building. Thanx.

Hi, Carolyn!

I'm investigating several options for you. I'll let you know what I
find, but it may take a while, since I have a number of inquiries out.

In the meantime, here's a streaming source that I think you'll enjoy:

You might try using the building's steel framework *as* an antenna.
Just connect a wire from the radio's external antenna connection
to the ground socket or center screw of an electrical outlet.

The telescoping metal antenna on the radio won't work for this.
That is for FM reception only. You need a radio with an external
AM antenna hookup, which may be hard to find. Most AM/FM radios
come with a built-in AM antenna, which consists of wire coiled
around the inside of the radio. You need one that has connections
for an external antenna, specifying AM.

Here's a list of streaming (and in some cases, screaming) AM stations:
