I'd like a list of all the bombs that were placed in London during the troubles (say betwen 1960 and 2000) by the IRA and similar organisations (INLA, Continuity IRA etc). I'd like to also know how many people were killed by each one. Ideally this would include any bombs planted that didn't go off |

Dear botogol-ga, The best source of information I have found is the CAIN Web Service (Conflict Archive on the Internet). It is a web site "devoted to providing a wide range of information and source material on the Northern Ireland conflict and politics in the region from 1968 to the present." I cannot supply a list here as it is too extensive and the site provides background information for each bombing. Also, it requires quite a bit of work to organise it. The site has a chronology of the conflict on a year by year basis. The chronology is derived from many different sources detailed at the bottom of each web page. The chronology starts at 1970. The first attack in London was 1971 at the Post Office Tower in London. To recover the information from each year, start at 1971. On your browser toolbar, go to Edit> Find and type> London in the search box. Click> Find Next and that will take you to each reference to London on that page. You will come the Post Office Tower incident on Sunday 31 October. You can then move onto the next year, and so on. Start at 1971 http://cain.ulst.ac.uk/othelem/chron/ch71.htm You can check the information against this site http://www.policeorders.co.uk/Terrorists.htm The BBC has some general background information on the various bombing campaigns. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1201738.stm Time Line http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/july/20/newsid_2515000/2515343.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/themes/crime_and_punishment/bombings/default.stm I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as soon as I receive it. It might be useful to read Martin Dillon's rather sensationalist book "The Enemy Within" which deals with the various IRA campaigns in England over the years. As far as I remember it has some information on the 1930's attacks as well as details of campaigns in the 70's and 80's. It's pretty thin stuff, but it might at least give you a clue where to look on the CAIN website as suggested above. I think it has been re-issued in the last few years as "25 Years of Terror"(see what I mean about sensationalist?). |
