Question ID: 383064
My garage door opener that hangs outside and opens the door when you
punch in a code does not work anymore. It stopped when I set the
opener in my car. Of course I have no instruction manual. Are there
instructions online that explains how to reset the code? It is a
Craftsman brand.

Hi nkamom,

Don't depair. I'm fairly certain I can help you - but I'll need the
model number of the garage door opener.

I'll be looking forward to your clarification.

Best regards,
tlspiegel

Aye - but there's the rub. I cannot find a model number. On the side
it says 1/2 H.P. There is a bunch of writing on the back, but I
cannot read it. If you tell me where to look, I can try again. The
outside thing does not have any model number. I was hoping there was
some sort of general explaination.

Hi nkamom,

1/2 HP is the most commonly size sold.

There are several ways to find or change the code.

1) Please call: 1-800-849-3998 (AAA Remotes) Pacific Time, and
when the operator answers, ask to be transferred to Technical Support.
I spoke to Betsy who is one of the Techs. Because you don't have a
model number, she told me they'd be happy to help you figure out what
to do. The company answered the phone promptly and I had no wait
being transferred to support.

To find out the keypad instructions, when you describe what you have,
she'll be able to narrow down the information. (If worse comes to
worse, she can explain how to contact the manufacturer for programming
instructions.)

2) On the main page for AAA Remotes: http://www.aaaremotes.com/liftmaster.html

You'll see an array of remotes. If you recognize by the pictures what
you have, then quite possibly the programming instructions will be
available online. Not all the openers have the instructions, but many
do.

For ex., if you click on the first opener listed on the far left -
you'll be taken to http://www.aaaremotes.com/liusadesethm.html and
after the information listed you'll see a link for: Programming
Instructions.

3) There are more than 2 possible programming methods.

DIP SWITCH - possibly 6, 8 or 9 - just change the dip switch settings
on the receiver and change the ones in the remote to match.

LEARN BUTTON - possibly black, green or amber/red - press and hold the
"smart" button for 10 seconds or until the indicator light goes out.
Memory has been erased and you'll need to reprogram in your keypads
and remotes.
To PROGRAM REMOTES - PRESS and HOLD the remote button, PRESS and
RELEASE the "smart" button, RELEASE the remote button. That's it.
