Question ID: 383077
Where can I buy old fountain pens,at reasonable prices, excluding
E-Bay where I have been burnt many times with misrepresented items
while nice pens being offered by sellers with good feedback get bid up
to astronomical levels?
I have advertised in local papers(poor response), visited antique
dealers(exhorbitant prices), attended auctions(even higher prices than
antique dealers),gone to flea markets( few pens and mostly junk),
looked for garage sales (no pens-just kids toys, books, et cetera)and
gone to pen shows where everyone is a very savvy dealer(no bargains
here!).I have also asked everyone I know with no success.

I can give you a list of dealers that I have found, but since I have
no specific knowledge of the fountain pen market, I cannot tell you
whether or not their prices are "good". Would you be willing to accept
this list?

Just to clarify again -- some of the sites I have found sell pens
which are in the range of hundreds of dollars. Almost all pens I have
seen on these sites are at least $50, and most are much more
expensive.

I have an extensive list of dealers gleaned from the Internet and
hobbyist magazines in Canada, the U.S. and Europe and without
exception their pens are way overpriced.
I am an older collector on a limited budget and realize that my
question is a bit Pollyannish but one lives in hope! I am pretty sure
that I have not left many stones unturned but figured that it was
worth a try anyway.
