This process is called FRAME BY FRAME transfers. Each individual
frame of film is photographed at high resolution and compiled together
removing all flicker and capturing ALL the color of each frame. The
specially modified projector uses a soft, low heat bulb to eliminate
heat damage, question what projectors are used, need type and model
number, they are designed to tranfer 8mm and 16mm to a digital format

Hi reddog,

Below is a list of modified projectors designed for high quality
transfer of 8mm and 16mm to digital or video format. The WorkPrinter
and Sniper series units allow you to make frame by frame transfers,
with 100% frame accuracy.

Video CineMate-15
$1095.00  plus S&H

"The CineMate-15 is designed for super high quality transfers of
regular 8mm and super 8mm film to NTSC video at a real time speed of
15fps. Though regular 8mm film was ostensibly shot at approximately
16fps, transferring at 15fps looks normal, plays more smoothly and is
flicker free; something not possible at 16fps due to conflicts in scan
rates and blade configurations. Like all the 8mm MovieStuff transfer
units, the CineMate-15 offers full frame viewing via an enlarged gate
and the ability to shoot right off the emulsion of the film via a
jumbo 5 inch condenser lens. The original lamp has been replaced with
a low heat, diffused 40 watt light source that lasts over 1500 hours,
costs less than a buck and is available in hardware stores the world
over. The entire unit is completely refurbished prior to modification
with all metal film surfaces polished, belts replaced and all
mechanicals cleaned and lubed. The CineMate-15 has a maximum capacity
of 400 feet (take up reel included) and comes with the condenser lens
pre-aligned on a convenient base. This unit works best with a camera
possessing a 12x or better optical zoom.
This is a serious transfer unit for both the commercial telecine
business or the home 8mm enthusiast. The end result is a flicker free
image that is sharp corner to corner with no hot spot and a clarity
once reserved for only the finest professional transfer houses."

Video CineMate-16
$1595.00 plus S&H

"The CineMate-16 is designed for super high quality transfers of 16mm
film to NTSC video at a real time speed of 20fps for use with older
16mm home movies that were shot below 24fps. The gate on the 16mm
units is not enlarged but offers clear visibility of about 99% of the
film frame. Like all the MovieStuff transfer units, the CineMate-16
has the ability to shoot right off the emulsion of the film via a
jumbo 5 inch condenser lens.
The CineMate-16 has a maximum capacity
of 2000 feet (take up reel included) and comes pre aligned with the
condenser lens on a convenient base. This unit works best with a
camera possessing a 12x or better optical zoom.
This is a serious transfer unit for both the commercial telecine
business or the home 16mm enthusiast. The end result is a flicker free
image that is sharp corner to corner with no hot spot and a clarity
once reserved for only the finest professional transfer houses."

Video CineMate-20
$1095.00  plus S&H

"The CineMate-20 is designed for super high quality transfers of
regular 8mm and super 8mm film to NTSC video at a real time speed of
20fps. Though Super 8mm film was ostensibly shot at approximately
18fps, transferring at 20fps looks normal, plays more smoothly and is
flicker free; something not possible at 18fps due to conflicts in scan
rates and blade configurations. Like all the MovieStuff 8mm transfer
units, the CineMate-20 offers full frame viewing via an enlarged gate
and the ability to shoot right off the emulsion of the film via a
jumbo 5 inch condenser lens. The original lamp has been replaced with

Video CineMate-PAL
$1095.00  plus S&H

"The CineMate-PAL is designed for super high quality transfers of
regular 8mm and super 8mm film to PAL video at a real time speed of
16.66fps. This is an ideal compromise speed for both 16fps regular 8mm
and 18fps super 8mm home movies; not too fast nor too slow. Like all
the MovieStuff 8mm transfer units, the CineMate-PAL offers full frame
viewing via an enlarged gate and the ability to shoot right off the
emulsion of the film via a jumbo 5 inch condenser lens. The original
lamp has been replaced with a low heat, diffused 40 watt light source
that lasts over 1500 hours, costs less than a buck and is available in

Video WorkPrinter Jr.
$1295.00  plus S&H

"The Video WorkPrinter Jr. is designed for stunning, ultra high
quality transfers of regular 8mm and super 8mm film to PAL or NTSC
video using programs such as Premier 6.5, CineCap or CaptureMate. A
specially modified mouse is provided that lets the Video WorkPrinter
"talk" to your computer, giving it commands to AUTOMATICALLY capture
each individual frame of film and create a standard video file that
can then be played back at any speed desired. The Video WorkPrinter
Jr. automatically transfers at about one frame per second, making it
compatible with slower computer editing systems lacking a faster
Raid-0 configuration, such as laptops or single drive systems.
Transferring frame by frame ensures 100% frame accuracy for critical
sound synch applications. Also, such frame discretion means the
clearest, most crisp picture possible next to a Rank transfer."

giving it commands to AUTOMATICALLY capture each individual frame of
film and create a standard video file that can then be played back at
any speed desired. The Video WorkPrinter-16 automatically transfers at
about six frames per second, making it compatible with virtually all
fast computer editing systems that have stop motion capture
capability. Transferring frame by frame ensures 100% frame accuracy
for critical sound synch applications. Also, such frame discretion

AS you can see, it is quite expensive to get the equipment to do the
film transfer on your own. There is a network of companies that can
do this for you. Try these groups:

Cheers!
