Hi,

There was a trailer for the first new star wars film a few years ago -
and I need to know what the background music was. I think there may
have been several trailers - the one I mean didn't show much of the
film - just captions with brief flashes of action - and very dramatic
classical music in the background.

I want to know what that music was.

thanks Delard.

Hi Delard,

Can you remember any specifics about what scenes or what captions were
in the trailer? I have found one trailer with the captions,

"Every generation has a legend...."
"Every journey has a first step...."
"Every saga has a beginning...."

intercut with and followed by several scenes from the movie. If this
is the trailer you are thinking of, I should be able to identify the
music in the trailer. If not, please give some more detail about what
you recall in the particular trailer, and I'll do my best to identify
the music.

Thanks,
smudgy.

Yes - could well be - I remember you didn't get to see much action -
just a few flashes of lightsabres etc - with this very dramatic music
in the background.

Anyway - give me what you can and I won't quibble over it :).

thanks Delard

Maybe there was another trailer? I was sure the trailer I was thinking
about had some famous classical music in it?

Anyway - please post what you have as an answer.

thanks - Delard

Hi Delard,

I'm not posting this as an answer since I don't think it adequately
answers your question, but I thought I would provide the information
anyway.

As far as I can tell, the music in the trailer is nothing more than a
highly edited combination (or perhaps even a specially recorded
overture) of themes from the original Star Wars and Star Wars: Episode
1. Some of the prominent themes that are present are the Star Wars
main theme, Luke Skywalker's theme, the Imperial March, and some of
the space battle themes from the original movie. However, as far as I
can tell the various themes are never arranged on the soundtracks
quite as they are in this trailer.

If you are interested in hearing particular themes from the trailer, I
can point you to the film soundtracks as an answer; if you want the
specific music precisely as it appeared in the trailer, I don't think
I can help you with that.

Let me know if you want me to provide information on the soundtracks.

Thanks,
smudgy.

Hi Delard,

Once again, I will not give this as an answer because I cannot
guarantee its accuracy. But it may be an avenue for you to pursue.

Here are Amazon links to the two Star Wars soundtracks:

Star Wars original motion picture soundtrack:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000003G8X/

Star Wars Episode 1 original motion picture soundtrack:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000IQMT/

It may be that since some of the Star Wars themes are so familiar that
you are thinking of them as old classical pieces. Or I may be entirely
mistaken, and there may be another trailer out there that has
classical music in the background--but this would not be typical of
the way George Lucas seems to work.

Here is a link to the trailer I found as well:

I believe this is the very first Star Wars Episode 1 trailer.

Good luck,
smudgy.
