Running a 9600/200MP upgraded to a Sonnet G4 400. Recently time (menu
bar clock) is non funtional. Tried switching down to 9.0 from 9.1,
then even tried to shoehorn 9.2.2, but no improvement. On every
restart, the clock is set to noon on 2/8/2040 (the rollover max date
for older macs) and will not advance in seconds, minutes, or hours.

Have used Polaris Orbit's PRAM battery checker program, but it does
not indicate a dead PRAM battery. Have used ProcessWatcher PPC, but
nothing unusual aside from the process start times not matching the
current system clock date/time (and not being current time correct
either). Have used Alsoft's List Open Files program, but that too
shows nothing unusual.

I have performed the normal time/date resets through the control
panel, which sets the time/date to what I set but it does not advance.
Using the network time server will correct the date/time but it will
still not advance. I have trashed the time synchronizer extension, but
that didn't change anything except the control panel bitching over the
missing extension.

I do not recall installing any new programs around the period when the
system clock started to not operate, but I do remember not too long
before that that I had set the network time to always synchronize.

The bizarre thing is that the computer appears to be otherwise fully
functional, showing none of the other prominent signs of PRAM bettery
failure such as lost settings for the finder. However, I suspect I
will face significant problems in the future due to file
creation/modification dates not advancing, and my webserver (WebSTAR
4.2) will probably have a fit from all the entries in the log occuring
at the same time.
